Just thought I would pass this on. I think it is very entertaining! I received an email from a new ebayer in Singapore, who has just joined today.
“”HI, Am a merchant of years of experience with an arrayof clients around the coast of europe and africa,a client has placed a quote on your item and the need to get intouch to you for the buy it now price.Will you be able to accept a cashier check as a mode of payment?,my client has said he will only raise a certified cashiers check for the payment of your item and the shipping charges from the united States to it's new origin.This means the cashier's check that will be sent to you will include the money for the sales of your item, my commission as an automerchant and the shippers fees.What i want to clarify is that will you be able to send the excess fund on the check back to me through Western Union Money Transfer method as soon as you get the and cash it and deduct the money for the sales of your item? Please your answer on this, will enabl e me to issue a directive to my client on the issuance of your payment to you asap.so get back to me with ur full contact info.””
I replied to the ebayer from my junk email address.
“SURE! NO need to use the buy it now, I have two, this will help me
cover the fees for western union.
Send the check to”
Here is where I put the address of the local Federal building, I’m sure they will know what to do with a fake cashiers check.
Some people are not aware of this scam, I am. I know the check WILL cash, and I know in about two months I WILL have to pay back the bank for the fake check. There are many people who actually fall for this.
If you run across this scam, just reply with the address of your local Federal building and let the Feds handle it.
