I need help identifying this dog figurine. I think it might be an Irish terrier. I bought it recently, and when I got home and unwrapped it, I found that the tail was broken. I am sure I would have noticed it in the store, I don't know if it happened when they were wrapping it, or on the way home, but I couldn't find the tail. The store is too far away to return it. It is a beautiful figurine, handmade in Italy, lovely detail. Is it worth listing a broken item like this?

Looks like a Schnauzer to me also. We had a much loved standard Schnauzer for years. Too bad about the tail. It would have been short since both the ears and tail are cropped in this country. If you plan to sell it you could mention that the tail got cropped a second time!

I think that it might be a Kerry Blue terrior based on the color-rasther than a schnauzer-

Thanks for the suggestions. The man I bought it from used to breed these dogs, but I bought several figurines that day, and forgot what he told me it was, but I am almost sure he said it was some kind of terrior. I have seen a lot similar on eBay, except that the ears are not like this ones, more folded over, but maybe they just do that.

Except for the color, it could be a Scottie. The Kerry Blue & Scottie are similar in shape.

Ralphie's long-lost uncle (Uncle Pierre) was a drunken French Bulldog from Southie -- got run over by a brewery wagon in Dorchester in 1890...

It's a standard or giant Schnauzer, not a mini. Minis are usually silvery grey while standards & giants are a darker shade of grey or salt & pepper (or black, which this figurine obviously isn't).

Kerry Blues are a much darker color, have a different coat and uncropped, folded-over ears. They're similar in shape to the big Schnauzers, and are decidedly NOT the same shape as Scotties--they have much, much more leg.Scotties also come in colors other than black.

The color of this figurine, at least in the photo, isn't very true to any color of the breeds mentioned, but seems to be closest to the salt & pepper found in the standard & giant Schnauzer. The head is classic though stylized standard/giant Schnauzer, as is the "grooming" of the coat.

neurotic scottie has bigger ears.
This is not the body of a scottie or a schnauzer.

TnErnie, that is close, but not exactly right. The head on this one is much shorter, and the beard is short, legs long and not as much coat. Could it be an Aerdale? I am quite sure I was told it was a terrier of some kind.

It is not easy to make good dog figurine,a kerry stone terrier is not a common dog ,why not ask the manufacturer or a dealer what breed is this dog?

I hate to be a party pooper, but I don't the maker of this piece went to all the trouble of finding out the breed specifics. Probably didn't even know it mattered.

sorry to partypoop the partypooper, you cant make such good dog figurine without knowing the characterisitics of the breed.
Dog collectors are different than cat collector or hippo collector or badger collector, they usually have that breed at home and they watch and observe or breed them, they wont buy a figurine if it does not look right.
do a search on Rosenthal russian wolfhound dog on ebay and you see how the bidding goes.

Airedales are always black and tan, don't have cropped ears, and have an even longer head.

It's an artist's rendering of a standard or giant schnauzer. It's not a perfect example of breed type, but it will be clearly recognizable as the breed to people who know the breeds. Whether they'll like it enough to buy it, especially with the broken tail...who knows; but it's clearly a schnauzer.

I sell dogs. I also collect Cocker Spaniels. There are tons of Cockers on eBay that can be recognized as on, but do not meet show standards. Some of them even have a long tail.

Like Karen said it is not a perfect example. It would be up to the bidder if it's close enough.

And there is no such thing as a Kerry Stone Terrier. It's Kerry Blue Terrier.
