It will be interesting to see how long this post stays. They deleted one of mine from this morning down in the Image Hosting section. Seems like bad press is not on their agenda.

Hi Diane and Kevin,

Diane, I just checked one of your auctions. Your images and Vendio Gallery are showing up just fine. I'm on AOL but access eBay directly through IE.

It DID take a while for the eBay page to bring up the eBay gallery thumbnails but the auction itself loaded as fast as always. A few seconds.

I'm back... Yes, the images are back to being slow but getting there. Anyone interested in the "whys" of what happening go down to the Vendio Image hosting and read "PostMortem". Very informative, at least to me.

From what I am gathering and guessing, at least one ISP in CA is having BIG trouble. Sounds like it may have a worm or something. this puts pressure on all of the others, who hopefully don't get infected, and slows down the whole ball of wax. Most of this is guess work.

I just read the post mortem thread and while I don't understand most of it, it does explain what happened. BUT (and that's a big BUT), we are paying for a service that Vendio is taking a calculated risk with. AND it is our businesses that are being affected (not to mention making Vendio look bad to new customers who have just signed up). Yet, Vendio will continue to bill us and collect their money, but what will be done about the money that we have lost? How can they possibly calculate it? I don't know how many hits I have missed because of this. I don't know how my auctions will end during the next few days if this continues.

I never say anything bad about Vendio. I have also supported them because I always thought they did a good job. My questions are always answered, and I find their technicians most helpful. That's why it really bothers me that we are having this problem. I don't know how many new users I have brought to Vendio because other sellers have seen my auctions. I do know of at least 10 right off the bat. When I started running my gallery, the next thing I knew I was seeing the gallery on many other Sellers' auctions, who don't any other service of Vendio but their gallery.

I do hope that they plan to compensate us appropriately, but I don't think it will make up for the lost revenue as a result of this mess.

I couldn't even access Vendio for 12 hours. E-mailed Lucy to see if she had a clue, and she was very helpful, but there seemed to be nothing I could do. A few minutes later, I checked and the pictures were back in the auctions and I could get into Vendio.

I'm in California, so I suppose my problems are that CA worm or such.

Lucy is magical, though. Just asking her about the problem seemed to clear it up. We should have a Lucy "relic" to sell on Ebay. Should get about $16K for it.

There are two problems I see with these on-again/off-again images.

The first is image. It makes my business look unprofessional. When the images go off I have no images in my vendio store (over 8000 images there), ebay store or auctions. So, the inconsistency may lead a customer to say, heck I don't want to deal with these folks.

The second is my vendio store. I am at the top of most google searchs for vintage ads. And my store sales are very good. I'm losing business in my store, according to emails I have received and any first timer is going to see no images and then not shop or come back.

IMHO

Glass - I have one telling me the same thing... of course this is after I sent her 8 non payment notices on things she won over a period of a week but still has not bothered to pay for. Strange thing is that 15 other people were able to get into PayPal in and around the time she claimed that she could not.

Thank you all for saying exactly what I said this morning. I find it hard to seem professional with pictures coming and going at will. (Now the pictures are aimed at Will...Poor Will.)

I'm sure they'll nip my reply to their uh what happened thread they started, but if you look quick here...you can see it for yourself....

"This being THE PEAK selling buying period it makes NO SENSE that VD would not have this worked out in say....July?

Everyone who had an auction running or ending that uses VD on the days that the images were OUT should be refunded that month's hosting fee. Immediately.

Stupid. Utterly stupid and incompetent and definately NOT something I want to continue to PAY good money for."

Just sell me! I think I qualify as a relic...

Seriously, I haven't had any problem seeing auction images, my own or those of others. I'm on AOL but I access Vendio straight from IE. Earlier today eBay was slow to pick up gallery thumbnails but not now.

The whole thing is puzzling me.

Hope they get this fixed. They sure didn't have any trouble sending my invoice. High again - one more month this high again and I'm out of here???

Truly, vendio says it's because of high holiday traffic for online shopping ... just like there would be traffic cops in a big city directing traffic, ... ... vendio says they and others who work alongside with servers, are finding CLIENT's servers, bottlenecking traffic this month! ...

I think I'll call my home network tomorrow and find out how to host my OWN darned photos.

Guess I better figure out how to send those WBN's too.

High fees, intermittent service....

This could explain part of the problem. Looks like Ebay itself could be on shakey ground:

glassgrl,

I have no idea what you pay for vendio services. As my other online business is internet consulting, I have access to a lot of different domain server space, so it is not an issue for me. It is very easy to get an internet server with tons of space for well under $100 for the year. The other part of the equation is an ftp program - The one I use costs $30, there are some free ones out there too.

As far as notices, I manage my auctions with ebay's seller assistant program. Seems to work pretty well, and I pay $10 a month for that. Annual fees should be well under $200. I could not even imagine paying for a per item listing for images. I know there is a little of a learning curve with a server and an ftp program, but the learning curve is well worth the savings in fees.

thanks vet.

Oh VD...I just wanted to say this:

As of 1:00 PM on Dec 7, you will be seeing lingering intermittent access for my Credit Card payment. I will be doing some banking configuration changes between December 1 and December 30. During this time, some payments may be intermittent. Please note that these changes and intermittent payments are related only to the serving of your account, and my personal banking balance remains unaffected.
