Last fall, I had someone purchase an item from me (on Amazon, but it is applicable to ebay as well) - I shipped via priority mail, and all we well, or so I thought. a month later, I get an email from Amazon informing me they withdrew the money from my account because the buyer filed a claim that they never received the merchandise, and that the time for me to contest it had passed. I never received ANYTHING from them about this except to hear the money was out of my account and back to my customer. When I emailed them to follow up, they basically said too bad, case closed. So, I contacted the seller, who had been in continual contact with me for 3 days asking where their item was. They never replied to any of my several messages to them telling them there was a problem, that they have my merchandise and my money. I gave them a deadline to contact me to resolve this, or I would file a claim with the USPS for mail fraud, and possibly with their local police department for fraud. I decided to go via the USPS first, since I figured I had a better chance of getting action. I received a letter from them a couple of days ago, along with a copy of a letter that they sent my customer. What do you know, my customer contacts me! I guess the part that says if it is not resolved and there is sufficient evidence, that it may be referred to the US Attorney for consideration and prosecution.

Moral of the story - If you get stuck with a chargeback and you are in the right and have proof the item was delivered, fight it!

I just heard back from this within the past hour, but I expect to be paid (and I told them I wanted a postal money order) - Everything I ship has delivery confirmation, and this one showed as delivered.

Took them less than an hour to agree to pay, so it looks like a happy ending

Yeah, not sure what they really could have done, but this person was trying to get away with something. It certainly sounds pretty scary when you get a letter when you know you did something wrong that threatens you with legal action. It sure got them to act within minutes when they had stopped responding to any communication from me about the matter.
