**Actually it should be from Denmark.
I have an inquiry about an item in my online store from a buyer in Denmark. In the past when I have made international sales on eBay the buyer has known how to pay with US dollars. They have sent cash or checks/money orders I could cash at my bank without fees. This buyer does not seem to have a clue. He wants to send a check but I asked him to be sure it could be cashed without fees. He says he is willing to pay any fees. Are there other options? BidPay will not work because it is not an auction payment. Are international postal money order available from Denmark? He has not mentioned PayPal so I assume he does not use it and it would open me to charge backs. It is not a high end transaction since it is only a little over $50 and I would like to keep it simple.
Thanks for any suggestions.

Why not have him pay with BidPay? I don't sell outside USA, but that would the simplest in my mind. Sorry, I didn't read far enough befor I wrote & sent this.

That was my first thought but I looked at the BidPay site and it says it can only be used for auctions. This is not an auction but a sale from our web site.

he can go to his bank in denmark and ask for a us dollar bank draft drawn on us bank, most banks have corresponding banking relationships with each other,so they could make out a draft drawn on say, bank of america or citibank or wells fargo.
It is his responsibility to explain this to the bank, danes are rather sophisticated people, they should know what to do.
yes,he would pay a fee,but everything is expensive in denmark,or he could do wiretransfer.
another thought-american express office nearby??

I've wondered before if it would be worth in this situation to (that is if the buyer were serious, and not merely curious):
List the item as an auction, but with a BIN price. Then have him pay through BidPay.
One would want to be certain that he was really wanting to buy, and one would have to be willing to eat the additional fees.
I wonder if BidPay really means "only for auctions" or if they mean "auction site transactions." Just curious. Anyone know?

BidPay is ONLY fer AUCTION SITE TRANSACTIONS -- ya have to list the site & number & BP checks these randomly.
I often list an item for just ONE person -- the most important concept here is: LIST IT IN YER EBAY STORE!
The fee is thus ONLY 3-5cents, &, if they hose ya, ye haven't lost anything!

I'm still trying to get over the concept of someone from Denmark actually paying
I don't know what it is about Denmark and The Netherlands but I have one group of items that I have sold from time to time over the years that I get lots of bids from there on but have never once actually had any of them actually pay for.
That said - I would not take a check. Money order in USD, Cash (makes a great emergency fund ), but I would not advise a check.

If it's really "common" sense, why do so few people actually have it?

If I get a check on an American back and give it time to clear will that be a problem? The sale is for a rather specialized book which does not seem like a typical scamer's target. The person is really eager to buy.

if it is a bank draft, you dont have to wait,as he has already paid for it.
if it is his own personal check drawn on his own personal account with us bank, yes, you want to wait.
Danes know what to do,mention wiretransfer as one option, that way there is no recourse.
Now,the dutch are different, they are CHEAP AS HELL!!!!
also he can use western union if there is one near him or go to thomas cook travel agency, depends on where he is.
