Someone told me that Fed Ex is much less espensive and quicker than the post office and a lot less expensive than UPS-I just checked their rate charts becuase I have to ship several boxes of china out this week and I can't believe that the charts are right- sounds too good to be true- Anyone use them?

Been using them for years, way back when it was RPS. I have a direct billing account & find them very coperative & reasonable in price. As far a faster than the PO, that's debatable. I can ship from CA to east coast in about 7 days bu FedEx Ground.

I very rarely use the Post Office any more unless it's for international or first class. 98% of my items are shipped FedEx Ground. I've had an account with them for over two years now. A couple of things you want to remember. Their transit time is quoted in business days, not calendar days. FedEx Ground division (for deliveries to a business address) delivers Mon-Fri with Sat & Sun off. FedEx Home Delivery division delivers Tues-Sat with Sun & mon off. Which means if you ship from Calif on Monday, the customer in Maine will have it at his residence on Saturday (5 days). If you ship on Tuesday, he will receive it the following Tuesday (7 calendar or 5 business days later). Unlike priority mail, if they fail to make delivery within their transit schedule, you can claim a refund of shipping charges. I've saved my customers a lot of money using this company.

I was in Florida last year and mailed myself a very heavy box of clothing to my home in Philadelphia. I couldn't believe how cheap it was (about $7.00) and how fast it got here! Seems to me it was about 30 lbs.

I also mailed a coffee maker but sent it UPS (went to their UPS store and they did pack it for me )and it was like $30.00 + just for this one coffee maker that weighed way less than the clothes.

Question~ I do not have a Fed Ex direct mailing center close by. If you have an account with them, will they pick up for free?

Gina; How much was the packing charge? Probsably cost 3X the actual charge for shipping. I just checked a FedEx shipment shipped on 12-3, delivered on 12-8 to NC from CA. 5 days for 9 lbs. FedEx will charge you $11.00 per week for P/U regardless of the number. But if you ship at least $60.00 in frght chges, it is only $7.00.

sanmar~ Yeah, the UPS store did charge me for packing it and all, never will do that again because it was way too costly.
Oh, okay, so Fed Ex does charge for pick up but that's not too bad. Thanks for the info!

Does FedEx do a one-time pickup or do you have to sign up for regular pick up? I send out about 1-2 heavy packages a month and live in an area where there is no drop off location closer than 35 miles!

I LOVE FedEx and used it quite a bit when I lived in California. One of the few things I miss since moving to my Midwest small town home!

I use fedex alot now. I can't believe the amount of money I've wasted at the post office (actually customers money) I've got a fedex location near me so it's great but sometimes I miss the deadline and gotta run over to kinko's to drop it off. Still a deal as it's just down the road and gives me an extra hour window.

FED EXP AIR will pickup for an extra 4 dollars per package.
Fed exp ground charges 7 dollars per pickup.
I used USPS for all my shipping,USPS priority is 2-4 days, but then my stuff is not that heavy.
Watch out for Fed exp ,UPS extra charges-if the recipient lives in an apt complex and the driver has to spent extra time wandering the complex looking for that apt or suite number.
Watch out for extra fuel charge if the recipient lives in certain area.

that's what I was going to say....every now and then you can get hit with the FedEx RURAL fee charge. If it's in the boonies - it cost more. And you don't know that until after it's all over with.

UPS currently picks up here every day for $16 a week. Or even less depending on volume. I think it's free if you spend more than $60 a week with UPS (no problem this time of year).

Is this the same kind of "pick-up" service you are talking about? And yes, 99.9% of my shipments would be "ground" shipments.

You've got my interest- those shipping rates do look good on small items. But I'd have to cut back to shipping only two days a week to make the pickup cost the same. It's doable, I just want to make sure we are on the same page when you say "pick up".

okay, now i remember,7 dollars per week ,week after week, for fed exp ground pickup,i dont remember if they come once a week or daily or on demand.
but i got fedup with all those extra changes which come much later, like extra fuel charge etc.
USPS will come on demand for 12 dollars per trip,or come free if you have at least one package going priority or express.
I usually go online and request pickup free,i will have one or a few priority packages and the rest first class.
if you live in a safe area, you can leave it at the front door.
But then almost all my packages are small and light.
