First of all Merry Christmas to all the Vendio folks (even Tom and the other Red Sox fans!)

Secondly, I need some gift ideas for my wife. I just about have her finished but I need 1 or 2 more things and I am at a complete loss! She's 36 years old with a variety of interests, I do not want to go the "Gift Certificate" route
Thanks!

I always like to get things I hate buying for myself: a cartrige for my laser printer (EXPENSIVE); big packages of packing tape and packing peanuts.

I take a variety of natural supplements that can get quite expensive. I like receiving those. Also, personal care products: my favorite shampoo and conditioner that has to be bought at a salon. I'm also always losing a glove and have to buy a couple of pairs every year. I'd rather someone else had to buy them. Maybe then I'd take better care of them.

Aromatherapy products are great, too. Get them from an aromatherapy shop that sells only pure oils - don't buy them on eBay because you don't know exactly what you are getting (sorry sellers of oils). Ask them to mix you up some special blends. Essential oil added to the bath can do everything from relax you after a hard day, to soothe a cold and flu depending upon the blend. I keep a small bottle of peppermint oil in my purse. Not only does it open up your sinuses, but a quick sniff will perk you up when you're feeling sluggish. Orange oil will help brighten you up on a dreary winter's day. Some shops will put a special label on the bottle: Mary's XXXXXX Oil, etc. Thoughtful personalization.

As a woman, I'm not looking for expensive jewelry. I want a gift that some thought was put into.

How about a doll she'd recognize from her childhood? Take something she really likes and start a collection for her. We women tend to be very sentimental.

I could go on, but I think you get the idea. Let us know what you settle on! I'm sure whatever you buy she'll love it.

I've always wanted to pamper myself at a spa for a few hours but felt it was something that was unnecessary, but it would still be wonderfully relaxing. But if someone were to give me a gift certificate to a spa for a facial or even better, a massage, I'd love it. Just make sure it is a certified and reputable massage therapy business and not one of those sleazy type of outfits.

BRAVO! Cheryl!

Although, as Ralphie humbly points out, deep down inside, every woman harbors a secret desire for SCALE ownership!

Tis a fact! Undeniable! Ask Ralphie!

One more thing about essential oils: DO NOT burn them in an oil burner. They're an oil and when over-heated they do burn just like oil on the stove. The oil will be ruined and the smell will not be what it was intended to be. They are best used in a bath mixed with coarse sea salt. A couple of drops in a teaspoon will do. They do not put an oily ring around the bath like bath oils do so that's a plus. You can also put some on a cotton ball. But, please, do not burn them!!!

How about a bathroom scale that automatically deducts 10 pounds or more! Now THAT's a gift idea! LOL! Seriously, I've been checking out your scales. The one we have here is from at least the 1940's and it has got to go! No, I'm not selling it. It's beyond that. I may be a customer after Christmas.

Cheryl:

Sorry, don't have THAT one! But, seeing that you live in Ohio, you should be able to get a bargain deal on a Blackwell Injustice Scale Model-666! Cheap, yet tawdry, the 666 magically disappears ballots, happily disenfranchising thousands!

I would *not* want a Scale as a gift from husband ... I think that would only remind us gals as to how much weight we need to lose or gain. Not a happy thought in my book. LOL.

Receiving that, would be as much fun as receiving ... ummm... a mop and bucket?... a new hot water tank? ... etc.

I would like a gift certificate for a MerryMaids cleaning crew to come thru my messy house a few times. LOL

Merry Christmas week everyone~!!!!

Victoria Secret Body Items. Their Pear after bath splash is terrific. All of their products are good and I think reasonably priced. If they are having a sale you can get 6 bottles for $30.00. Or you can mix and match with their other products. No, I don't have stock in Victoria Secret I just think their products are great. If you have No Victoria Secret near you Body and Bath runs a close second.

Every Christmas I get from gifts enough after bath spray to last me until next Christmas. No out of pocket expense for me.

Here's what I asked for...
microplane (fine zester)
a GOOD pizza cutter
silicone oven mitts, the LONG ones
Mastercook 8.0 software
Green coffee beans for my home roaster
electric knife sharpener, a GOOD one
Origins Ginger stuff
PicaJet photo software
new window tinting on my car
Victoria's Secret PINK stuff

If she likes to cook like I do, any kitchen gadgets make great stocking stuffers. It's probably too late to get this personalized in time for Christmas, but a great gift idea for a cook is a pan from thatsmypan.com. I bought several this year as gifts and they are BEAUTIFUL, even nicer than the pictures show on the website.

Good luck!

Trader's list is my kind of stuff.

Our daughter is a few years older than your wife, and she LOVES getting a spa certificate. I've also given her a big gift certificate to her favorite hair salon so she can get her more expensive hair products without guilt. I know you said you don't want to do a gift certificate, but when in doubt that can be a great gift and much appreciated.

My own lists have tended through the years to have items like hedge trimmer, composter--in the days when we had a big yard to take care of. But the diamond stud earrings my husband gave me one year are still among my favorite pieces of jewelry.

Hi Micmic! Happy Holidays! Getting pretty chilly here in rural New York - how about a remote starter for the car? Godiva chocolates (can't lose with that one). If she drinks, a nice bottle of Bailey's Irish Creme. Lotions are nice, but you should know her fragrance preferences and stay away from cheapy ones, they're awful - nice low to middle priced line is Healing Garden by Coty. Well, good luck and maybe we'll run into you garage saling in the spring.

I vote for the salon day. You don't have to make it just a gift certificate. You can pick up a couple items at the salon and then attach the gift cetrtificate to it. I did this for my mother a couple years ago and she still talks about it as one of the best gifts she ever received (even ranked over the antique Stieff Elephant I got her last year) because it was simply something she would never have done for herself.

Seemingly ridiculous but surprisingly good cheap gift - the Conair massaging pillow. $15 at Linens and Things. Got one for the Step who liked it so much he got one for a hunting friend and the chain has gone on. Eveyone who has recieved one has bought one for someone else so I broke down and got one for myself.... it's squishy and it vibratates and it's a perfect additional to the ebay chair!
~~~ • ~~~ • ~~~ • ~~~ • ~~~
If it's really "common" sense, why do so few people actually have it?
OK, OK lets keep it clean...lol!! Thanks guys and gals for all the great ideas. My decision will ultimately come from this discussion. I will announce the "winner" later as I have delayed the trip to the mall for a few hrs of late season Muzzleloading hunting in the historic private lands of southern Broome co. NY. Don't worry anti-hunters, this will be a last walk through the woods unless something really special walks by...
earthmum, winter is sure taking hold now. It is supposed to be a high of 9 degrees Monday! I have $8000 reasons for some snow though (New Ski-Doo) You guys are only 85 miles north of us but you are guarenteed the nice heavy lake effect stuff while we depend on noreasters. Sooner or later though we eill be in your neighborhood, last year we went from Whitney Point NY, through Sherrill, to Rome!
Did she have a favorite movie this year ? If so buy it on VHS or DVD so she can watch it whenever she wants.
Clothes ....you can never go wrong there if you know her size. I like to get a brand new oh so soft nightgown every Christmas. Doesn't have to be a sexy thing but one she would like.
Does she collect anything ? If so try and find one of what she collects. Like I collect odd looking ashtrays.
diamonds (and not the Kmart ones either)
massage. that was the first thought that popped into my head also. That's one thing I would love to have but can't justify the expense.
HOT TUB!!! (that's my secret wish)
