eDC on their packages. No matter what I sell I always make sure I can use eDC. I pack my items so that it measures 3/4 of an inch so that eDC is included on first class packages besides Priority.
I.E.
Sold an item last month, well early November. About a week later I received an email from them and guess what his purchase hadn't arrived. Well he didn't know I had eDC on the package so I went into track and confirm and sure enough the package had been delivered. I sent him his tracking number and the USPS url. I told him my end of the transaction was complete and that it was his problem from now on as I couldn't do anything. Insurance was offered but not taken. I haven't heard a word since. No feedback either..I haven't left one yet either.
Insurance would be of no value in this case because the eDC was confirmed. He did work in an office so I am sure someone accepted it and what they did with it he needed to find out.

I put eDC on every package I send through paypal....it's easy cause the have the address and everything ready with just a few clicks of the mouse. It's not safe to mail anything from a dollar on up cause they will swear they didn't get it.
What I do with people that say they haven't received there package but is showing up as delivered is send an email with a way out so they don't get offended. I'll say something to the effect of your delivery confirmation shows that your item has been delivered , maybe your spouse or children got the mail and didn't tell you it arrived ...please ask everyone in the household if they got it....Then you usually get an email back lol that says oh so sorry you are right my wife/husband put it in the spare room without telling me (yeah right )

electronic Delivery Confirmation.
It cost you 13 cents for first class and nothing for priority mail. If you use paypal and your buyer pays you through paypal you can get your label through there, but there is one drawback that PayPal charges you a fee for first class eDC. Nothing for Priority.
You can down load shipping assistant from the USPS website and print your labels with out postage then take it to your local post office and there you will pay for first class eDC 13 cents over and above the postage rate, again priority is free if you use that service.
I think there is also a click and ship from the USPS website where you can print your label with postage. I don't use that but someone will probably give you the low down on that, or ask your postal clerk. There is a poster on our post office wall that explains it.
You cannot buy delivery confirmation at the post office for 1st class package.
I say I use it most of the time so that you can prove if your item had been delivered or not.
BTW I did ask my post man if I put the extra 13 cents on my packages can mail them from home, and he said yes. So what I am going to do is put proper postage on then below that put the 13 cents.

Every package I send has it. It's saved me so much debate and hassle that I'd never dream of sending an eBay shipment without one.
I sent a CD to my brother last week, and I got halfway to the PO before it occurred to me that I didn't really need the DC on that one. It's just so much of a habit I don't even think about it anymore. It's just a part of the postage cost.
Any seller who ships without at least this extra step is just asking to get ripped off by a dishonest buyer.

I love eDC; however, it's too bad the USPS doesn't train their staff that everything must be scanned (not necessarily priority) in order for the USPS to collect their .13.
3 major suburban post offices in my area have not. Yes, each time they don't I politely educate them; they're surprised but also disappointed that they have had to learn from a customer.
I wonder how many thousands of eDC packages are not being scanned so the USPS can collect their .13 fee. Doesn't seem like much; bet if they collected what they're suppose to........

I fyou use Endicia, you can log into their webpage and use the locate order function to bring up a list of everything shipped on a particular day.
The status of delivery confirmation also shows up. So you can see at a glance what has definitely been delivered and what wasn't scanned. If I ship 20 packages in a day, usually there are one or two that were delivered without a scan.
When a customer says something hasn't been delivered and the DC shows "scanned in Cincinnati" (The closest main processing hub) and nothing else, I can usually believe them. Things seem to get scanned in Cinci and then fall off the face of the earth.
It ain't perfect, but it's still saved my butt enough times to be worthwhile.
