What is a double framed picture frame called, where the front part of the frame swings down part way and allows space between the two frames for storage of notes, letters etc?

Max, Does this hang on a wall and the front picture swing down on a chain or metal arm to form a triangular space to hold mail? That is the kind of thing I am picturing. I don't know if there is a special name for them but I am sure I have read them called "wall pockets". I remember because my sister collects vase type wall pockets and I have found them when I was searching for information for her. There are also other styles of objects that serve the same function. I have a pressed paper wall hanging that has a little calendar and a pocket to hold mail. I have also seen those called wall pockets.
Not sure if this helps and I may be picturing the wrong kind of object. A picture would help.

photosensitive:
You hit it on the head exactly. It's definitely an antique, complete with chains and a thin single large thin board for backing.
I checked eBay, and found nothing remotely like it.

I have seen them in antique shops and must have seen some online since I could picture it and knew what it had been called. I'll ask my sister who does a lot more shopping than I do.

I was Instant Messaging with my sister. I was sure she would know. They are called wall pockets and the reprint of the 1897 Sears catalog has some on page 670. If you can find a copy of that catalog it has some great copy. The most expensive one is 80 cents!
