We shipped a delicate, antique cup back in early November. It was one of a kind for us - meaning we don't have others like it. Sold for $9.99- way under what it should have sold for in an antique shop. It was described in perfect, like mint condition. Weeeeeks after she gets it, she writes and says that there was a tiny chip on the inside edge of the rim. I know it couldn't have been our packing because everything we send out has more than needed padding.
Insurance was offered but not taken. In the 1st email she said she still liked it but was disappointed. She sends another email on the 24th asking for compsensation because it was not as described. I haven't responded yet.
We examine everything we ship out and are deligent in describing the items accurately. I can not believe I missed a chip.
I need some ideas on how to respond to her or do I respond to her at all. I don't want it back.
Thanks, Louise

Sounds like buyer's remorse to me. Definetly respond to her her email, but keep it simple. Tell her how well you inspect your items and that you had offered insurance, which she had declined.
Sorry she is not happy, but mention you would have gladly processed the claim IF she had purchased insurance.
Sounds like she found the chip a little too late to track down where it orignated.
You might also see what else she had bought latley. Could be she wants to pull a switcher-roo.

Another scenario is that she has a set of dishes that match this cup and one of her cups has a chip in it and was using this to replace that. It's to bad buyers don't buy insurance. I never refuse to give the buyer an option to purchase it. Why do buyers think sellers should reimburse their purchase price because they refused insurance. I can't understand that. The reason sellers sell on eBay is to make money not to send inferior merchandise so that they can lose money on a auction.

I don't think not responding is a good idea. If you are sure you shipped it in perfect shape, then you certainly have the right to tell them that without insurance, there isn't anything you can do about this. They won't be able to do a chargeback assuming you used delivery confirmation. You might get a neg, but you might even if you do refund.

I find it interesting that the chip is on the INSIDE edge of the cup, which may not have shown in the photographs you used anyway. Sounds very suspicious to me.
I suppose you've looked at the photos you used to make sure that little chip wasn't there??

Any problems with merchandise should be brought to the attention of the seller within a reasonable amt of time - like 7 days on the outside. After a month in buyers posession, you don't owe her anything.
P.S. I REQUIRE that the buyer take insurance on any sale over $10.00. I doubt if USPS insurance would cover a claim like this though. Package would have to show damage.

It's impossible that any packing could cause a chip on the inside rim of a cup.
Sounds like a switch to me or it was chipped during use. Tell her to return the cup & you will check to see if your invisible mark is there, just to be sure she is not making a mistaking your item for another.
There's a good chance you will not hear from her again.
Better still you could end it quickly by telling her it's just too late for a refund.
I certainly think it is.

I have done some research, as suggested. She had bought a cup with a very similar description from another seller. Unfortunately the photo is gone from the listing, so I wrote to the other seller for a picture or description.
Depending on what the other seller says, I am considering returning some $$, maybe. Just have to weigh what I will gain by doing that. I have spent too much time on this already for such a small amount and would like to put it to rest.
The fear of negative feedback is always there (I know - I read this board enough to know what some of you are thinking), but I am getting verrrrry close to 1000 unscathed. But then you can't be in a battle without coming away with scars!!! And on the other hand she has more to loose with a neg with only 64 fb.

No matter what you do, get the cup back first.
Try asking for a refund from a store without the item. Won't happen.
I still think she's way toooo late to ask for or expect a refund.
