In the last few days during the many times of signing out and signing back in, I have accidentally put my password into my user ID slot. Could this be a problem? I am wondering if anyone can discover my password now.

Are you the only one using your computer? If not, others may now see your password if you get a list, including your password, when you click on the user ID slot.

It's near the first of the year, time to replace the batteries in your smoke detectors and change your passwords.

If it wasn't a secure connection (https), you password would be vulnerable. Small chance, but possible.

I also think you are ok but be proactive. Prevent a problem before it occurs.

I wouldn't do anything drastic yet like deleting internet explorer. Don't let your fear get you doing all kinds of things. Take one thing at a time. Changing your passwords is an excellent thing to do first thing. Don't forger to atleast add numbers to your new password and write it down so you don't forget it.

Second, delete your temp files and cookies in IE (internet Explorer) or Netscape, which ever you use. Then empty your recycle bin. (right mouse click on your trash/recycle bin and then left mouse click on empty)

Update both adaware and spybot . Then run one of them until they stop finding stuff. Then run the other. I suggest using Spybot first and then running adaware.

Also do your windows critical updates at some point.

Test and see how things go. Let us know what happens

If it makes you feel better...

I have 6-7 yahoo emails, multiple accounts across the I'net, host two web sites, and do online banking in two banks.

I am always tabbing over too short or too far and slapping my password into my name or user section.

I have never, ever, ever, ever, been hacked, hassled, phished, swished, whatever.

I also have an imac, which means I am less likely to be "snotted" with by those nasty spyware people.

It's very likely you are safe.
No one knows "My88CaTBreath" isn't your name versus your password.

(not even close to mine...sorry phishers!)

Thanks guys. paloma91 I did all those things, found 14 things on Spybot, only a couple on Adaware, but got everything else deleted, so hopefully there will be no problems. I appreciate all the help and suggestions.

Japerton, all right, another iMac user! I'm running an iMac G5, it's great, no viruses, crashes, etc. I almost feel guilty!

'I am less likely to be "snotted" '

I've never been snotted by my computer either, luckily for the computer!

But yes, iMacs are cool. I have two of the original bondi blue ones. They're a little slow compared to today's machines, but still useful in emergencies. Didja hear that Apple is going to announce a sub-$500 iMac at the next big show? It's supposed to be VERY small and come with no monitor. We'll see...

No. Since your password is not a valid ID, the website cannot post a cookie for that ID and will default to prompt you to insert your ID properly. Just like it never happened.
