NEW YORK Dec 29, 2004 — "Law & Order" star Jerry Orbach has died of prostate cancer at age 69, a representative of the show said. Orbach announced last month he had been diagnosed with the disease.

Orbach, 69, starred for 12 seasons in the original "Law & Order" series, but left to head the spin-off "Law & Order: Trial by Jury," set to debut next year.

His representatives had said Orbach was receiving treatment since spring, but refused to discuss how advanced the illness was or the nature of the treatment.

Orbach began playing Detective Lennie Briscoe in 1992, the original show's third season.

Born in the Bronx, he was in the original cast of the off-off-Broadway hit "The Fantasticks" and has appeared in such films as "Dirty Dancing," "Prince of the City" and "Crimes and Misdemeanors."

So sorry to hear this, I had no idea he had cancer.
I watch Law & Order, but for some reason remember hom most from Dirty Dancing as Baby's father.

I'm a real fan of all the Law and Order shows. Just as they announced Orbach would be leaving the show, I noticed in the last two shows that he was looking a bit under the weather. I'm sorry to hear of his death.

He was scheduled to be in a new spin-off of Law & Order: Trial by Jury.

Among officers who watched the show, he was truly a favorite if not the favorite. A "sardonic, seen-it-all" cop was well played by him. Truly sad to see this loss.

Unfortunately, we were disappointed in the casting of his replacement last year on Law & Order (original series). I know it is hard to fill Orbach's shoes but their choice of an actor and attempting to keep the same character's perpective of cop life wasn't a good match.

Try to remember the kind of September
When life was slow and oh so mellow
Try to remember the kind of September
When grass was green and grain was yellow
Try to remember the kind of September
When you were a tender and callow fellow
Try to remember and if you remember
Then follow
Follow follow follow...

Try to remember when life was so tender
That no one wept except the willow
Try to remember when life was so tender
That dreams were kept beside your pillow
Try to remember when life was so tender
That love was an ember about to billow
Try to remember and if you remember
Then follow
Follow follow follow...

Deep in December it's nice to remember
Although you know the snow will follow
Deep in December it's nice to remember
Without a hurt the heart is hollow
Deep in December it's nice to remember
The fire of September that made you mellow
Deep in December our hearts should remember
And follow...

OK, I know he did a bunch of stuff other than Law & Order, but how does that song tie in with him?

Replay - not sure how the song relates to Orbach but possibly from his Broadway roots. Because of their New york City casting base many of the L&O franchise actors came from Broadway (Those that didn't come from HBO's Oz that is).

Toy - I'm still trying to get used to Farina too. After 12 years of "Lenny" it's wierd not to see him and Farinas charachter is a lot more quirky.

I was looking forward to Orbach in the new series which also included Noth for a few episodes and Kirk Acevedo asa regular (yes - another former Oz alumn.

Ralph (Mr Show-Biz) J. Dog reminds ye that "Try to Remember" was the 1 hit from "The Fantasticks"...

He also does a mean soft-shoe & rather impressive imitation of Pinkie Lee!

And dating myself.....I grew up with the "realistic" Adam-12 and Jack Webb on Dragnet and Emergency. Quite a few cops and firefighters over the age of 40 took on those careers based on those series.

I'm sure he had some great technical coaches, but in the end Orbach was Lenny Briscoe.

Keeping this eBay related....There will never be a Law & Order metal lunchbox.

'Law & Order' star sues eBay

Orbach

NEW YORK (CNN) -- The actor who plays Det. Lennie Briscoe on NBC's
"Law & Order" is suing eBay, claiming it leaked his Social Security
number with disastrous consequences to his credit rating.

Jerry Orbach filed suit Monday in U.S. District Court, alleging that
the online auction site advertised for sale two of his 1958 acting
contracts. A digital image of one revealed his Social Security number,
it alleges.

As a result, the 64-year-old actor says he's a victim of credit card
fraud, claiming eBay's damaged his credit rating and hurt his personal
and professional reputation. Orbach is seeking unspecified damages as
well as an order barring eBay from using his name and Social Security
number for advertising purposes or in association with any bids.

The company's legal team has not yet seen the suit, says eBay
spokesman Kevin Pursglove. He says the items were removed from the Web
site last week, as soon as the company learned they may have been
improperly placed there by one of its users.

I did not remember that but I do know that over the years he has not been the only one tht has fallen victim to that same problem. I have to wonder what some people are thinking when they do those types of listings.

As for Farina... the biggest problem I think I have with him in the role is that I am so used to seeing him in organized crime roles that I'm waiting for the turn.

You expressed by thoughts in words. Okay actor; wrong part. Even if Orbach hadn't proceeded him.........
