If you sign up for their free trial BEWARE!!!
They make it very difficult to cancel your account.
If you choose to cancel and go to their website, you will not find a phone number in any obvious place.
Thus if you look under cancel you will see the following:
=====================================
Can I cancel anytime?
Absolutely. You can cancel your membership simply by contacting Stamps.com Customer Support. There are no cancellation fees and no commitments. To avoid being charged after your trial, simply cancel your account before the trial ends.
=====================================
No phone number. Oh well, there is a "Contact Us" option, I'm sure the number is there -- right? Wrong!
You get a webpage with links to several email forms and a mailing address. So I choose one and shoot them an email telling them to cancel.
No problem. -- right? WRONG!
They decide that if you don't call them to cancel, they cannot cancel (but they don't say this on their website) -- so come 01/01/05, I get charged for another month of service. I call them on 01/03 and they decided to be closed that day. Yesterday I was in bed sick, so I call this morning and am told that they will cancel, but they won't reverse the charges even though I've not used the account in weeks.
THEFT!
SCUM!
ARGH!!!!
BEWARE!!!!

If you emailed them prior to the first then I would call them back, inform them that you requested that your membership be canceled prior to the new new billing period and that if they do not voluntarily refund the charges that you weill file a charge back on your card based on an unauthorized charge and will provide your card company with a copy of the email requesting the cancelation.
Excessive unauthorized charge chargebacks can result in the cancelation of a merchant account so this should get them off their butts. If not - just follow thru on your threat. Not having an easily accessible way to cancel a recurring charge membership is a violation of many merchant account agreements.
Personally I don't trust companies that make it as difficult as possible to cancel your membership. If you believe in your service you should not be so afraid of people canceling that you make it nearly impossible for them to do so.

If it's really "common" sense, why do so few people actually have it?

eagleedc -- Once she told me what hoops to jump through, it was on the webpage -- I never said it wasn't. Just that it is NOT in the obvious places or easy to locate. I'm sure it won't hurt their bandwidth to put the number everywhere it mentions contacting customer service.
