A buyer e-mailed me through Ask Seller a Question asking the shipping on 3 or 4 items to Austria. The questions came from a puppy figurine. I admit I goofed up and didn't look at the item close enough. I thought it was a Christmas ornament or key chain. Very few people buy 3 or 4 figurines.

Anyway, I told her $5. This morning she bought 5 items. But only one puppy. If she had bought puppy figurines, I would have sent them for the $5, because that's what I told her. However, she bought 2 of my biggest dogs and a panther on a rock. Those things weigh 4 or 5 pounds a piece. The postage will be $50 for airmail and $30 for surface.

Am I still obligated to mail them for $5, since she didn't buy what she asked about?

I shouldn't think so.

You should have been more specific in your reply, if you have items that have that much of a difference, perhaps asking what they would buy might be a good idea. Her question was vague, so while technically you would be wrong not to ship for the price quoted, I don't think many people would take such a loss because of what they should do!

I agree. I should have asked what she had in mind. But like I said I thought she was asking about one of the small items. That is not unusual. People are always buying 3 or 4 them.

OTOH, she should have known $5 was not right. And she should have at least considered that I would think she was asking about the item she e-mailed from.

I may get a neg (or 5) out of it, but I'm not going to mail them for $5.

I wouldn't ship something that costs $50 for $5 either. You may get a neg, but obviously this person is trying to take advantage of you.

Just send the WBN with the correct shipping amount for the items won.

If he/she asks why the amount is different, then you can tell them the shipping amount they requested was for the other item, not the ones they bid upon.

No need to risk a neg. Just email her and ask her if she wants it shipped to Canberra or Sydney. She'll probably email back and tell you to forget the whole deal.

I guess I would explain to her what happened and tell her the actual shipping cost. Perhaps you could offer to split the difference or give her a discount since you admit that some of the fault was yours. I would let her cancel the whole transaction if she doesn't like the increased shipping cost

Gtootie, what happened? Did you invoice her yet? Hope she didn't make a fuss. I would have done exactly what was suggested here.

Good luck!

I got up this morning to find an e-mail from PayPal that she had paid. She didn't include a message or e-mail, so she must be OK with it. If she had a problem, I'm sure she would have said something.

Could be that she thought I meant to type in $50 when I put in $5. Either way, I'm happy it worked out this way.
