I am trying to get up the nerve to change my e-mail address so that it'll have some numbers in it and maybe discourage the hundreds of spams I'm getting. My fear, of course, is that I'll forget to notify some site where I use the address and get all messed up.

In addition to Paypal, Ebay, Vendio, my e-mail server, I know there are many others. My plan is to start keeping a running list for about a month and then get up the nerve to make the change.

Anythng I should watch out for, that I might otherwise forget to list?

Try to think of sites you seldom log into, where it's easy to forget your password. When you request, they will send your password to the email address you originally had when you signed up unless you notify them of the new email addy. Banks and government agencies might fall into this category. Also, don't forget Bidpay and your insurance company.

Remember to change you email address in vendios global preferences or all your paypal payments will go to your old email address. I worked for a couple of months to figure that out but evidentually I got it then I switched back to my old email address. Go figure.

Change it in ebay once, paypal once but vendio twice. One in your account and one in global preferences....

I have numbers in my email address but with my ISP and their email I get very little spam as they have a spam catcher. Believe it or not I get about 150 spam emails a day. When I get an email that is spam there is a box I click to tell them that from now on I don't want that mail. It takes a little longer to get my email because I have to go into their website, but worth the extra work. They also have my virus protection. Outlook express puts all the spam in your mailbox.

When I went through and changed mine 3 or 4 times last year I also had to go in and edit each of the auctions so that the Pay Pal payment would not be sent to the old address. I still had a couple of them (the old addresses) show up during the November rush on ebay. The payment still came to me because I didn't delete the old addresses from my Pay Pal account however, I didn't receive the paid notices.
The reason that I had to change so much was I had tried one of the few highspeed companies here and boy that was a nightmare. They were down more than they were up. BAck to my old reliable dial up ISP.

Kevin, I would never have thought of that particular problem! Thanks so much for mentioning it.

Seems to me that I'd have to plan ahead carefully on that PayPal stuff, since I will occasionally get a PayPal payment straggling in after 2 or 3 weeks. Hmmmm. I guess I could just warn any stragglers not to use PayPal, once I have my new e-mail address.

Very good to know.

Just be sure to leave your old email address in Pay Pals list of your email addresses. That way the payment will not bounce. I still have 2 of the 4 different email addresses that are on Pay Pal and every once in a while one of my customers still send a payment to the old email. As luck would have it they always use the old one that I still have access to. I guess that they go by what they have done before.

I had lots of problems when I dropped one ISP and moved to another. If you are keeping the same ISP its just a matter of switching names. The problem with a new ISP is that many sites require "verifications" for changes and if the old email address is no longer available you are out of luck. It took me nearly a month to convince some of my customers to cancel paypal payments from one email address to the newone after they had already paid. What a mess, I couldn't get my funds out of PayPal for weeks.

Forgot to mention.... the only way I could get my funds was to sign up again on the old ISP. Transfer the funds and then drop the ISP for a second time. Paypal was not help at all. "Rules" you know....

Kevin I had the same problem and it was not with PayPal it was at vendio and the global preferences. There is a place to change your email address so that it can go to the right paypal account. I did receive an email from paypal and they said I only had to make my new email address verified. I did that and it still went to my roadrunner email so I sat down went through everything again and that is when I remembered that the global preferences has to be changed or if it isn't it will go to your old email address.
