Recently, I sold a lot of five Ford automotive brochures (the stuff you pick up at auto shows, dealers, etc.). All but one were offered as 1996 "full line" brochures (one a 1996 trucks booklet...the crux), while the fifth was a 1997 model booklet. Buyer paid, I shipped. Today, I get not one, but TWO threatening emails stating:
"Your advertisemet said you had a 1996 full line Ford truck Line brochure, it was a 1997 Full line truck brochure, either refund my money back or send me the 1996 Ford Full line truck brochure"
Alas, upon my research it appears that I accidentally omitted that ONE of the models in the booklet in question was a 1997 model (they introduced it early--I didn't realize it when I listed it), but otherwise, it was still a 1996 model-year booklet picturing 1996 models (I picked it up back in January 1996--I should know). Semantics, maybe but I don't want a neg over this.
Should I offer him a deal to keep the lot or a refund upon return of everything (or just tell him to stuff it?)

People like this really bug me.
If it would be worth it to you I would ask him to send the entire order back at which point you will refund. A lot of times they back down at this point because they want to keep the other items in the stack.
You could just offer a refund on a 5th of the order since he only has a problem with one of the books.

If I refund part of it through Paypal (in exchange for his keeping the lot), can he try to hit me up for the rest later on?

Yeah...dat's da RUB, as they say in the massage biz!
I NEVER do partial returns/refunds! If there is a problemo, return EVERYTHING & I will REFUND 100% plus SHIPPING both ways -- they virtually never take me up on it...

why dont you ask him to review all 5 brochures and decide how many he wants to return for refund before you hit the paypal refund button?
most people are not that bad.

I told him if he doesn't like them, send them ALL back (with DC) and upon verification that the lot is complete and in the same condition sent, I'd refund his money. I don't want to push my luck with a partial refund if it's going to come back and bite me later on.
Let's see what he comes back with...
