considering the recent posts RE: insurance, etc;

i thought someone might find this letter from the USPS interesting...and, to some, another reason not
to ship to Canada.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

my point? no matter where you ship, this is what you will face on I'natl - domestic sales...the difference is that this particular claim began in 6/2003...

USPS makes buyer or the seller validate the value per the second item listed on the letter - then
there is the validation required by submitting a "proof of payment receipt."

i apologize for the edits; but i cant get image to appear...mot

So?

Imagine the kind of fraud they would have to put up with if they DIDN'T require this. Why not insure a worthless item in an envelope for $200.00 and send it to A FRIEND in Canada. He tells the PO that he never got it. You make a claim, the PO pays the claim, the two of you split the windfall. The PO is going to do everything they can to make that more difficult.

If I were you, I'd be complaining about the claim taking SEVEN MONTHS, not about the information requested.

USPS is terrible for international claims. First, you must wait 90 days to file - That is outrageous! I did file a claim once, turned in all of my original paperwork, and 8 months or so later, get a letter telling me that I need the original forms to complete the claim. I had turned them in, didn't have them - It was a $50 claim that I just had to give up on almost a year after I shipped the item! I use private insurance now, I only wait 3 weeks and it is much simpler. I have two international claims out there right now that will be paid a long time before I could even file with the USPS.

no part of my thread implies anything more than a simple posting of the usps's practices. no complaining.

and 6/2003 to present date is not "SEVEN MONTHS."

ebayvet -- Who do you use to insure your international packages? I have to ship out about $130 worth of patterns to Australia and would like to insure the package. Do you have any experience with UPIC? Thanks for any help you can give me.

I use DSI - Discount Shipping Insurance. I have a flat fee plan with them, everything I ship is insured. They will also allow you to ship a single package as well, their rates even for one package are cheaper than USPS, and they will pay much faster!

Thanks so much, ebayvet. I usually don't ship such a large amount overseas and just don't want to take the chance with this one!
