What keeps you jazzed or going with ebay? The $$$'s?? -The fact that you have bills to pay and youve invested a much in it? How do you make it fun enough to keep enjoying doing it? And do you ever seem to hit a valley, and then what do you do? Take a break?
I would normally go out and find some new things that get me excited enough to think they're interesting enough to list them and that usually revs up my energy, but that is not whats happening here lately.

Lol estatesale...um,,,riff raff? lol.
Sell whatever I think is interesting, or tweaks my interest at the moment. Some stuff I've read up on.....collectitables mostly
I noted you stated antiques are getting harder and harder to sell on the Internet.
- Why do you say that? (I think everything is getting harder and harder to sell - just seems there is so much choice out there!)

I will take a break when my interest drops. Usually the break ends when I come across some potential inventory that is really, really good.
It's still hard to make myself sit down and start listing again, though.

I give myself a choice between cleaning my home or working. Working wins hands down every time. Now, if only my home will self-clean.

I think that most of us, if not all, hit those valleys. My latest was when Ebay raised their fees just as I was about to open a store. I've been disheartened for about a month now and it's harder to get the energy to list these days. I'm sure this will pass.

Since I sell new items it's a little easier for me. I only have to be REALLY motivated for about 4 days a month when new inventory arrives. That's when everything has to be sorted, broken into lots, photographed etc... after that I only really work an hour or so a day. If I had to photograph and describe for hours a day everyday like you guys that sell one off things do ... I would lose my mind.
If you are feeling true burn out - my favorite thing (other than running away to Vegas for a day) is to Movie Marathon.
1) Movie Marathoning is a SOLO sport - never take anyone with you so that you only see what you want to see and do not feel obligated to stay if you made a bad choice.
2) Movie Marathoning must include a "Guilty Pleasure" movie. You know the ones... hideously cheesy, super chick flick, bad sci-fi ... the ones no one else can know you want to see.
3) Movie Marathoning includes monster size tub of popcorn with extra butter and NO DIET DRINKS.
4) The Optimum Movie Marathon should include 3 movies but if the theater is in a mall area can include 2 with a break for shopping in the middle and should always be topped off by a stop at ColdStone or Ben & Jerry's.
Nothing quite so reinvigorating as spending a day being completely selfish and self indulging.
On the other hand, losing your shirt in Vegas is a great way to remotivate in order to recoup

Diane- I'd almost kill for a self-cleaning house
fenix- When I get in a funk, I buy Godiva's Creme Brulee coffee, a novel I've wanted but hadn't bought, and a box of See's chocolates (you can order exactly what you like on their website!) then curl up on the couch under a comforter. Or I might try something new from Bath & Bodyworks and take a long hot bath.
It's life's little pleasures that keep me going sometimes.

Yummmm! See's Candies! I just got my Easter catalog and can't wait to grab up some St. Patty's potatoes and jelly eggs!
I keep motivated by writing down my goals~for the week, month, and whenever it comes. It's usually a certain amount of sales or paying off inventory, etc. My favorite part is taking that highlighter and marking off something. I like to see what I'm working towards at all times.
Sure it's silly but I can only do so much before I'm on burnout...selling the same item day in and day out gets that way but as long as I can see the reward coming line by line, I'm okay with it.

Bizzy...LOL. love that answer! I would like to find a self cleaning house. My son gave me a Roomba robotic floor vacuum for Christmas, so my vacuuming is done on a schedule and I don't have to do a thing but make sure the cats don't corner it.
Fenix...that's kind of what I do for PMS. A movie by myself (so I can't bi*ch at anyone)and the biigest tub of popcorn they have (extra, extra butter and I add a bag of peanut M & M's to the popcorn tub).
I am just a "mini seller". I clean out a closet and divide my "treasures" between Salvation Army and Ebay...I don't know how you full timers do it.

I think it's a bit like people who play the lottery, there is always that chance there of a win. 2 bidders who are crazy for your item, and keep bidding it up! It used to happen, not very often any more, but it's the excitement of hoping that maybe it will happen again.

Classic...my Roomba is Model 4210. You plug in the "home base" with the vacuum and it charges for about 3 hours when you first get it. When you want it to vacuum, you put it in the center of the floor and press "clean". It senses areas of dirt and the "dirt alert" light will go on and it will clean over the same spot until the dirt is gone. When it's done with the downstairs, it goes back to the charger all by itself. Then I put it upstairs and press the "clean" button again and it vacuums upstairs. Too cool. The only drawback is that is doesn't do the stairs!!
My son gave it to me because I was scheduled for reconstructive shoulder surgery and after surgery, it was a godsend (we have cats).

thanks minnie-my house is wall to wall carpenting-both up and down stairs.I just retired and my wife still works, I dont think I have to tell you who does the vacuuming around here.My wifes siamese cat has the run of the house. Having this thing roaming around the floor and getting the cats furballs caught in the rotating brushes will amuse me to no end.

I sometime go back and look at pass sales. It helps to think about the little porcelain shoe you paid $1.00 for that sold for $125.00. You don't know why it did and there may not really be a good reason why - but it did. So you hope for more little porcelain shoe in your future!!!
Love the movie and popcorn idea too!

Hi ladyjewels, yes that is a good idea for inspiration!! Especially if low on funds. But ya know, even that bothers me days when blahs come like this. I had one item go for alot more than I had ever expected, and I felt like a shrewd taking their money for it. I mean, I know they bid it up to what they wanted to pay for it....and god knows I needed a "high" on a sale my way, but I couldnt help thinking, if I was just selling this at a shop, I'd never ask that price for it!! I guess I have to think maybe my buyer knew something than more I do and we both got lucky.
I did once find some collectable glasses really cheap and they sold moderatly well, compared to what they book at. It was still like a 300% profit for me, but I think if the buyer was a more experienced reseller/dealer, there was certainly room for them to make a profit too. If it was just a regular buyer, then they got a good deal and that usually makes me pretty happy. -- Hey, ,maybe I need to go back to buying on here more and be on the other end of the fun for awhile?? Harass some sellers on less than perfect listings and stuff!! LOL!!
