I have a great photo postcard of a little girl but how would I describe the hat? Thanks in advance!

Looks like an Easter Bonnet to me. I'd say she was dressed for Easter.

Describe it? A beret with a bow? Edited to add that I would describe the dress as a drop-waisted dress with ruffled skirt.

Yes gina - going to list it tonight. I guess I will just have to say "fashionable hat with bow" lol. Must have been the cat's meow back in the 1910S!

Is it possible it's something called a pork-pie hat? That just rose to the top of my brain a few minutes ago.
Let us know if you find out, please. Now we're all curious.
I think the little girl is just adorable!

I think Gina and her significant other look like Cathy and Irving from the comic strip 'Cathy'.

O googled "pork pie hat" - looks like it is the kind of hat Frank Sinatra wore in the 1950S ...
So that's not it - I think bizzy is right - beret with bow?

It looks like something the Pillsbury Doughboy would wear to formal occasions.

OK..I won't change the description, but the hat must have derived from the "mob cap" the colonials wore:
It may have been called a muffin cap:
Or a mushroom hat:
Whatever it is, I think it's charming!

I'm sorry Crow - I didn't mean to self-promote. I just couldn't help posting when I found this card. I LOVE these kinds of cards though - no matter how they dress these little folks up you can still see a child not unlike today's children in their eyes.

Neglus, we used to have a picture of my Grandfather, circa 1910. He was about 2 years old and wearing a white dress! I swear, that is how they dressed the boys back then. He didn't get to wear pants until he was 3, poor fella.

I too have a picture of my Dad in the little white dress. A few years later he had one taken in an Indian costume.
Neglus: a local woman has taken vintage postcards of tourist areas and had them reproduced. She is marketing them (as reproductions) to hotels in those tourist areas and making a killing. Just a thought for you.
