One of my buyers notified me that he would be paying via PayPal with a cash transfer.

My eBay seller's page is showing "PayPal payment pending." That space where there's a $ if someone has paid via PayPal - there's an hourglass instead.

When I log into PayPal, that auction is just listed as "unpaid."

No email from PayPal notifying me of a payment being made, though, clearly, the buyer did something to initiate payment or it wouldn't be showing up on my eBay page.

I've asked the buyer whether he paid via direct debit, e-check, or maybe he's transferring funds from his bank account to his PayPal account to cover this and it will take 3 to 4 days to complete the transfer (?). Haven't heard back from him yet.

Anyone notice any glitches with PayPal this weekend?

I've never seen the "pending" bit before, or the hourglass.

I had an echeck last week and it only took 2 days. With the check 21 transactions seem to be moving faster.

Libra,

I have a friend who sends me e-checks. But with those, I get two emails from PayPal - when it's initiated, and when it clears.

Nothing in email from PayPal on this buyer's payment - One of the reasons I think there might be a systems glitch.

Also possible he did something wrong - if he meant to pay with cash but inadvertently tried to pay with a credit card, that would be listed as "pending." I'd have to upgrade to a business account to accept it, and I wouldn't.

But usually that produces an email from PayPal, too, when people make that kind of mistake.

roz, maybe because its the weekend it has not been processed yet but its pending to be processed?

Is paypal asking you to accept or deny the payment?

btw, not all banks are participating in the check 21 thing.

db,

There's just nothing from PayPal - no email, no record of a pending payment when I log into my PayPal account directly.

This is my only transaction right now, so I don't know if this guy did something wrong, or if it's a problem with PayPal's system.

Where is your bidder? I have the same scenario with a customer in Denmark. The money is immediately debited from their bank account but until PayPal gets confirmation of receipt they do not acknowledge it.

It's kind of like when you withdraw funds from your PayPal account to your bank. They are removed from your account immediately but you don't get them into your account for a couple more days.

If it's really "common" sense, why do so few people actually have it?

Fenix,

He's in Illinois.

I think that he might be unverified and in the process of transferring funds from a bank account to PayPal, and that would take 3 to 4 business days, but ... still, there should be an email notice from PayPal.

I emailed PayPal and asked for assistance.

I also emailed the buyer and let him know there was a problem.

I spoke to a PayPal rep ...watched a lot of TV while I was waiting.

And, the answer is ...we identified the glitch. The form didn't pick up my email address, so his payment went nowhere, though it was showing up as "pending" in my eBay seller's page.

The rep told me to tell him to cancel his first payment and re-send.

No indication of whether this was a one-off glitch or a broader system malfunction.

Estate,

Here's the email I got from PayPal.

But, yeah, it just occurred to me ... can a buyer cancel a payment only if there was an error in the original transmission?

I think the payment has to be "unclaimed" for it to be cancelled:

Dear XX:

Hello my name is Tracy, I will be happy to assist you with your question
regarding the payment that was sent to an incorrect email address.

Here are the instructions on how to cancel the payment that was sent to an
incorrect email address and then how to send it to the correct email
address:

***To cancel an 'Unclaimed' transaction, follow these steps:

1. Log in to your account at https://www.paypal.com/ by entering your
email address and password in the Member Log In box.

2. Click the 'History' subtab.

3. Select 'Payments Sent' from the drop down menu.

4. Select the dates by manipulating the date box and click 'Search'.

5. Click 'Cancel' in the Action column of the unclaimed transaction.
*(You may only cancel a payment that has a status of 'Unclaimed' and has a
'Cancel' button in the action column).

6. Click 'Cancel Payment'.

7. The funds from the cancelled payment will be returned to the
sender's credit card or PayPal account balance, based on the funding source
used for the payment. A credit to a credit card may take up to 30 days to
process, depending on the card issuer.

***Once you have cancelled the Unclaimed Transaction, you need to send it
to the correct email address. To to this, please follow the steps below:

1. Log in to your account at https://www.paypal.com com by entering
your email address and password in the Member Log In box.

2. Click the 'Send Money' tab.

3. Fill out the form.

4. Click 'Continue'.

5. Review the details of the payment, including the 'Source of Funds'.
If the payment that you are sending exceeds the amount of funds in your
PayPal account, you can click the 'More Funding Options' link to change the
source of funds for the payment.

6. Click 'Send Money' to complete the payment. To change any
information, click 'Edit'. Please note: If you edit your payment details,
the funding source will return to the default method of payment.

*The recipient will receive an email announcing the payment. The email
contains a link. After clicking on the link, the recipient can log into
PayPal or sign up for a new account. If the recipient does not have an
account, they will be required to open an account to receive the payment.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us again.

Sincerely,
Tracy

Hmmm... thanks for your effort, rozrr ... I was wondering if there is a way to simply "cancel" a paypal payment. ... but you show they stated that if it is an "unclaimed" one, it is just a few clicks ....

thank you.
