I hope this comes through here okay. I wonder what was happening halfway through March 8th, why the dip?

Could be because that was a Monday night.

I week prior, eBay had a One-Day 50% Off Fixed Price Insertion Fee Sale promotion.

The dip in sell-through rate was a direct result of the items listed during the promtion ending on the same day. (artificially high listing count, overpriced items, too many competing items, etc)

March 8th was a Tuesday night, and I can't think of anything big, like a TV show, happening that night. Sthoemke's guess may well be right!

Disregarding that Tuesday quirk, it looks like Sunday is no better than any other day to end an auction. And it's an especially bad day for BIN sales.

The FP and BIN sale listings started the 2nd and ended the 9th. Maybe people decided not to list on the first and wait for the sale on the next day once the sale was announced...

OR...the most probable reason..

MARCH 8TH is my BIRTHDAY!!! The whole world musta been celebrating too LOL

Tomwii, it is not a matter of agree or disagree with your sig line. BUT, the point of a sig line is that it should be A LINE, not a book!

and yes, we would all be happier if your political comments were left on the RT and kept out of the EO. The election has been over for months.

Well, Gee, GG, where's yer righteous indignation about sig lines in this thread?

http://www.vendio.com/mesg/read.html?num=2&thread=602362

Obviously, it tain't there because you AGREE with that line...duh!

There's a term for that...

mine's bigger Tom.

sometimes...I just get tired of your overblown sig lines.

there wasn't much to choose from and heaven knows I DON'T VOTE at all.

so I'm not against you per se - I really try hard to like you....

I just hate ANYTHING shoved down my throat.

lol, I think GG is gonna be sorry she said that!

As for the stats.. Go back a few weeks, it seems there is a bad night in most weeks but it varies so much that we would be hard-pressed to predict just which night it will be. Maybe it has to do with the alignment of the stars??

One interesting thing that I noticed on the charts given in this example.

It shows Wednesday as being the best day to end an auction. Not much of the surprise there. But the second best day is Saturday. Very surprising at that.

After giving it some thought, there does seem to be flaws in the charting. It is only giving percentages of sell through rates relative to it's own days. It is not taking into account the actual numbers of listing that are ending on those days along with the actual listing that sold. It would make sense for Saturday STR to be high, but that is also the day with the lowest number of listings that end so a very small number of bids would raise the percentages quite high.

What's the deal with having 3 lines...BIN Normal and Tot Bought? And if Tot stands for total, why is it always lower than the BIN?

Just glancing at the chart makes it look like BIN is the better way to sell. Is that the correct interpretation?

Jake: The blue line is BIN bought. The red line is Normal bought (auctions). The green line is the average of the two. See the graph legend underneath the graph.
