Hi,
just got back from the post office and was told there will be no more international insured express mail. The clerk told me they have lost millions of dollars to the overseas thieves stealing insured express mail.I send out 20 packages a week overseas and normally use registeed mail.Italy is my best customer but the worst place to ship to.Now I have to repackage my express mail.Has anyone else heard this today.I have a message from the post office
# 02310-050314.Basically it says the same thing thats already on the back of you ems receipt.I normally mail watches but the clerk told me that any insured EMS will not be accepted after today.Your thoughts please

EXPRESS MAIL??? WHY??
How much are yer WATCHES going for??
YES, if one is an international theif, going thru packies, looking for the GOOD ONES to steal, the EASY WAY to weed out da junk is to: only steal EXPRESS MAIL!
When Ralphie ships to Elbonia or Lower Slobovia, or wherever, he uses AIRMAIL LETTER (or PARCEL) POST -- and insures it thru DSI!
Adding REGISTERED MAILis an option, but that too seems an invitation to pilferage!
How's bout UPS?

Hi,
my average overeas watch is usually at least $200 with many of them going for 6-800.He told me insured parcel post will be the next to get the axe.I have never had a claim but I have heard the average international claim time is around 9 months or so.Has anyone had any luck getting a payment from DSI on internation mail

Yes, Italy is so bad, I couldn't get USPS to insure for there. Sure enough, my last package to Italy never arrived. It was a couple of old calculus books -- just the kind of thing the mafia likes to fence.

Well, I sure do LOVETH the DSI, but, if me-&-Ralphie were shipping $600 watches, we sure as hell wouldn't ship them thru the USPS!
TALK with yer UPS rep -- I've just started with them & they will crawl all over ya to be HELPFUL!!

EMS used to come with 500 dollars insurance and then cut down to 250.
what is the situation now,is there any automatic insurance??
UPS and FED EXP INTL are both very expensive.
How about switching to registered mail??

I normally use registered mail for most countries but sometimes I just felt like having a tracking number.Registered mail is not insruable,at least not beyond $43.I have heard way too many stories about UPS and FEDEX.Basically they will sell you insurance but not pay off on it.The fine print with them excludes art/antiques/jelwery and so forth. The fine print on the back of the EMS receipt also excludes most valuables, except that now they will be enforcing it.I was told pakages containing valuables will be returned

Maybe try shipping Air Mail, and use DSI as
TOMWIII suggested for your insurance.
I just signed up with DSI, my customer in AU told to me that they insure all USA and International.
If you check the web site and call them on the phone they will be a big help to you.
I know I will be using them for all my USA/International Insurance, and they are very reasonable. And everything can be done from the computer, with free carrier pick up from the USPS if you print your own postage.

One thing i was told by dsi, is not to put insured on the parcel anywhere. as it attracts thieves. and part of their contract is that you do not put insured on outside of parcel. and if possible never mention the word jewellery .
the country i had the most trouble sending parcels to was germany. i lost 3 parcels. a lot of dollars involved. now they will not accept any insured parcels from aust.or registered. so now i use dsi and do not say insured on the outside. i have been doind this for about 2 yrs. and they are getting thru. for those that dont know .we were told that the german postal service is owned by a dutch company. they also own the postal system in about 5 other countries.

Yo! TunaFish:
Didja ask yer postal drones to show you this "new policy" in writing? Is it in a new Postal Bulletin?
I ask because:
Mailing Service Summary
(1lbs/1oz to the UK)
Mailing Service Your Cost:
Global Express Mail (EMS) (1 pound and 1 ounce) $28.75
Insurance (Insured for $600.00) $5.00
Total $33.75
Estimated delivery time to Great Britain is 3 - 5 Days.
So...
either clerks are full of GWB or the web-site is???!!!

I recently shipped 2 gold coins via global priority mail to foreign countries, what i do is to tape it to the inside of a greeting card and then place the card with envelope between cardboard papers and then place them in global priority small envelope, marked 'photo inside, please do not bend'.
(They are for family, not ebay buyers)
I insured one via DSI and one uninsured, they both arrive at destination okay.
If you are shipping watches, the small global priority envelope should fit,but there is no global priority mail to Italy.

does the post office know if these reported mail thefts really thefts or mail fraud?
i find it hard to believe anyone using EMS to receive mail live in crummy places where thieves can just help themselves with foreign mail??

Unfortuanately stopwhining. every country is having trouble with mail thieves. EMS stopped insuring anything of value about 2 yrs ago in australia. i do have trouble with parcels going astray in the usa. it appears that most of the time it is staff in mail centres like los angles for example who are stealing our parcels and mail.
the single biggest factor in parcels disappearing is insurance. as soon as the thief sees insurance on the parcel then it is an open invitation to steal something that might be valuable. why else would you insure it.?? that is their thinking. that is why dsi dont like you writing insured on the parcel.

DSI would stop insuring mail going to certain countries if they see too many claims.
so whatever happens to EMS with automatic insurance of 250??
