My auctions state that I do not accept paypal. Yet, today someone tried to send me money thru paypal. They also neglected to add shipping costs.

Is there anything that can be done, so that someone can't pay you with paypal at all?

It doesn't happen often, but every time it does, I have to go to the paypal site and figure out how to send their money back.

Use a different email address for your auctions than you do for paypal. That way, when they try to pay you, you really don't have to do anything since it will not be associated with a paypal account.

Thanks for the suggestion. Do you know if there's anyway to actually cancel a paypal account? I paid for 2 auctions last year with paypal and haven't used it since. They no longer have a valid credit card number and I never gave them a bank account number, but somehow I still have an account with them.

My descriptions also state that I don't accept Paypal. Whenever someone tries to use it to pay me, I send them an email explaining that as stated in the auction description, I cannot accept a Paypal payment and that is will be necessary for them to reclaim it. I go on to state that they can pay with a check, money order or online with Bidpay.

The last time this happened I emailed the person and told him (or her I don't remember which) I didn't accept paypal. They wrote back and said that paypal told them I had to refund the money. So I didn't even try this time - I mean I e-mailed and told her I don't accept paypal, but I also told her I would refund her paypal payment.

Per ebayvet's suggestion, I changed my paypal e-mail address, maybe that will keep this from happening again.

I rather have a Paypal payment than one of those damn International Money Orders. What Sellers don't understand, is that even if you were to put the money order in the bank they hold it against your account for 8 to 10 weeks and It can bounce just like a check so you lose the money and pay the fees for a bad check. I am not going to tie up my account waiting for this stuff to clear. And there isn't anywhere that will cash these without charging a fee. And I'm am not talking about money orders from another country, these are drawn on US Banks. I am also getting sick of waiting for a month to get a payment in the mail. I changed my auctions to Paypal only. I will now crawl off my soap box and go back to my cage.

MAH645,

Tell them to use BidPay and you have the option of direct credit to your US bank account.

If your bank charges a fee to process a US money order, Payable in US dollars, and drawn on a US bank, then it's your fault, not the fault of Traveler's Express, Walmart or any company that has the word "International" imprinted on the face of the document. You chose to deal with a crooked bank that embezzels mpney out of your account at the drop of a hat. Why not switch to a reputable bank? Personally, I would prefer a personal check from a customer over a Paypal payment. At least if it bounces, you have recourse via the customers's police department or the district attorney. What authority do you complain to when paypal does a chargeback to your account?

My suggestion would be to remove any reference to PP from your TOS. Keep the payment part of your TOS simple and positive such as "Please pay with check, cash,or money order." Been doing this for years without a problem.

Don't hate Paypal, hate the jerks that don't read the TOS in your auctions!...

alldings - I like your payment terms sentence. I may try it. I actually didn't mention paypal until the first time someone paid with paypal and then I added an "I do not accept paypal" sentence.

Mah - maybe the international money order charge depends on where you live. Here "in the sticks" neither my Savings & Loan or credit union charge me to cash a money order.

Ignoring yer animus towards PayPal for the moment, it is important to recognize the various types of money orders flaoting out there:

1) Regular ole MO: like from Travelers Express, etc -- yer bank should accept without any problems.

2) INTERNATIONAL POSTAL MONEY ORDERS: -- most banks will NOT cash, but the POST OFFICE will for free, with proper ID

3) So-Called INTERNATIONAL MONEY ORDERS: from a foreign bank -- NOT drawn on a USA bank --Most USA banks will charge a BUNDLE to deposit these, & I don't accept, as SouthTrust charges $30!!

4) INTERNATIONAL BANK MONEY ORDERS, IN USD, DRAWN ON A USA BANK: yer bank SHOULD accept these without any charge, as they are just a money order from the USA bank shown

This is incorrect. Any bank worth a hoot will cash these without any problems at all. I deposit many of them every month without any type of charge what so ever.

As far as MAH, pull your head out of your rear end and start using a bank that is worth a damm.

That's only because the banks are intimidated by yer USED-CAR SALESMAN'S STARE -- here in JAX, none of the banks will touch an INTERNATIONAL POSTAL MONEY ORDER...have to cash at the PO...

I live in a small town and my bank won't even cash U.S. Postal Money Orders. Apparently, someone cashed $18,000 worth of fake U.S. Postal Money Orders from Nigeria at their bank. Now they require me to deposit them to my account and write a check to get the cash I want. Unfortunately, I don't have a choice of banks here.

machuff,

Easy to fix - open an account by mail with any large US bank with international branches. We do most of our banking by a combination of mail (for deposits), phone and online. You needn't be restricted by your geographic location if you think outside the box. We deal with banks in around twelve countries - mostly online. Great for foreign buyers as they can do direct deposits to our account (usually free and often same day) in their local currency. No need for PayPal and all those exorbitant fees, plus the chance of chargeback or payment reversal!

Never bother with depositing Postal Money Orders to bank accounts - they can be encashed free of charge at all good Post Offices - provided they have enough cash on hand. Non-postal Money Orders need to be either cleared through a bank or encashed (depending on issuer) at your local Western Union agent.
