My son wants me to sell this old radio for him. I have no idea how to date it. It has tubes and a really old battery. I have no idea if it works because I don't think I can get another battery like this one. Any ideas on where I can find out how old it is? It's a Westinghouse.

Approximately 1954, according to the two sites I use:

Thanks, Tom! Sure wish I knew if it worked or not. According to the man that gave it to my son, it worked until the battery died. Duh!

Cheryl...What is the voltage rating of the battery? It's shown on pic #2, but I can't make it out.

67-1/2 volts! It's a very large battery!

Looking at the layout diagram, it looks like it takes 2 batteries. In the bottom left corner it calls for an "A" battery, which looks like a 1.5 volt. That's a piece of cake. Any alkaline "C" or "D" cell will supply that with enough current. The 67.5 volt battery is another story. Check the web sites for Eveready, Burgess and Ray-O-Vac and search for the battery using the numbers given. They may still be available. If you don't have any luck there, check with a local burglar alarm company. They may be able to obtain a combination that will render 67.5 VDC that will fit in the space. As a last resort, an external AC supply can be built that will provide the correct voltage. I would leave that to whoever buys it. If it's a collector, he will know how to do this.Just remember, there's not a radio that has ever been built that cannot be brought back to life.

BTW Cheryl...Get that old battery out of the radio NOW. If it's dead, and starts leaking, it can drop the value drastically. And you don't want to ruin the connector that attaches to the top of the battery. They're not that easy to find replacements for.

I had already taken the battery out. It was just in there for photographing! I learned that lesson a long time ago!

I can't help with the radio, but I did want to tell you that your pictures are really great.
What kind of camera do you use and what do you edit them with. I lust for photos like that.
