You have to be a Canadian resident to qualify...

10 cents, plus 83 cents in taxes...hmm.. (just kidding, though I'll never get over the trauma of being TAXED to browse the internet in Canada!)

The thing that worries me is this statement.
"Please note: the discounted fees will not be immediately reflected on the site. You will see a credit to your seller's account within 60 days." I guess they have to make sure that you qualify first. What if I list a load of items and then someone decides that I don't qualify?

thanks for posting this. Too caught up in other items lately and likely would've missed this. You're correct in that the offer does only extend to Canadian residents. Think I might take advantage of this with a number of listings, especially as re-lists and listing on the ebay.com sites seem to be viable options.

"If I list on eBay.com will my item be eligible? Yes, as long as you meet the other criteria you can list on eBay.ca, eBay.com or eBay Motors (excluding vehicles)"

WOO-HOO!

I'm a Canadian resident, but I registered before there was an eBay.ca and therefore am registered on eBay.com, am I eligible? Yes, all Canadian residents are eligible

I'm re-listing an item that previously didn't sell on April 22 and I meet all the other requirements, will I get the promo? Yes. Re-listed items will be eligible.

DOUBLE WOO-HOO!

My listing is available to Canada and US only, is it eligible? No, only worldwide listings will be eligible.

My stores inventory format listings are all marked 'will ship worldwide', will I get the promo? No - Store inventory listings are not eligible.

Do Fixed Price listings apply? No, only Auction-style listings will be eligible.

Will the discounted fee be immediately reflected on the site? Unfortunately no. In order to verify who qualifies, your insertion fees will be credited back to you, no later than 60 days after you list.

went on live chat at ebay.ca.

Your chat session started.

Jay: Hello. Welcome to eBay Live Chat.

Jay: Thank you for waiting. My name's Jay. How can I help?

me: re the 10 cent listing sale, and delaying crediting one's account in order to verify eligibility. What will be verified? Whether a seller is registered with a Canadian address? Is that the only thing being verified in order to qualify (other than the other things like auction listings stc

me: sorry meant etc. at the end there

Jay: I'll be happy to help you with this.

me: thanks. I'm here.

Jay: In order to qualify for the listing fee promotion taking place tomorrow, you'll need to ensure that you'll be willing to ship your items worldwide. If you list and opt to ship internationally, your listings will qualify for the promotion.

me: Yes, I know. but the delayed account credit bit says that "subject to verification"?

me: Of what?

me: I'd cut and paste that bit for you, but I can't do it in this chat window.

Jay: Oh, this is the note posted on the promotion page : Please note: the discounted fees will not be immediately reflected on the site. You will see a credit to your seller's account within 60 days. The verification process would be us verifying that you had opted to ship your item worldwide.

me: Is that it? Oh well...I would have thought that most Canadian sellers do that anyways.

Jay: Oh, I do believe that many do.

Jay: For such promotions, we do just need a little time in order to correctly process accounts eligible for the listing fee credits.

Jay: That's the reason for the slight delay with the credits reflecting on the account instead of immediately showing up on the site.

me: I was thinking that the verification was that a seller was, in fact registered with a Canadian address. And again, can you confirm I can list on the ebay.com USA site?

Jay: One moment please. Let me check if listings on the eBay.com site will be eligible for this promotion.

me: The FAQ page seems to indicate so.

Jay: Thanks for waiting. The following had been listed as a Frequently asked question on the promotion page : If I list on eBay.com will my item be eligible? Yes, as long as you meet the other criteria you can list on eBay.ca, eBay.com or eBay Motors (excluding vehicles)

Jay: Yes, I'd like to confirm that for you.

me: Jay. thanks much for your help here. Have a good day/evening (whatever the case may be where you are)

Jay: You're most welcome.

Jay: It's been a pleasure chatting with you. Thanks for your time.

Jay: Have a great night!

Jay:

me: Will you use the 60 day verification period to figure out a way to screw me out of the promotion fee and charge me full fees?

Jay: Absolutely. This is a beta scam. If it works, Ebay.com will try it this spring:

me: Thank you so much for your help.

Well, let's hope not. I''ll still list a few items...not a few hundred. Friday has to be a pretty carpy day to list anyways, but for 10 cents a pop I'll give it a go.

bcpostcards: Thanks for your posting on live chat, I got 2 different answers on live help as to whether I can list via eBay.com. There is not a mention of this offer on the site, only on eBay.ca, and I am still wary of doing the listings on eBay.com. I never list on the eBay.ca site, and I am wondering how "connected" they will be when giving the discounts in May. I am still toying with the idea on listing on the Canadian site, but in US dollars. What do you think?

The way I look at it, if it's in writing (via the announcements page and FAQ page), then I'd consider it good to go. ebay has ofered plenty of listing promos on the .com .ca and other sites, some of which have been listed as credit-delayed. What I can't recall is anyone posting a thread that that the credits didn't (eventually) arrive.

I've never listed on the .ca site either and in this case am not planning to either. Although the US$ has weakened considerably against the CDN$ over the last few years, resulting in notably more Canadian buyers of my range of widgets, the US (with 10x the population and potential bidders) remains king with me.

With that in mind, realize you are listing items that will also close on a friday. I'd expect less than typical "snipe" bids at the last minute and adjust opening prices and goods offered accordingly. It'll likely be mostly retreads for me.

If you're feeling cautious about the delayed credit becoming a "no credit", don't go to town with listing high end stuff or high volumes quantities. If erchance things did go sour, items starting at 9.99 would still only cost .35 ea if you listed manually (more with vendio, third-party software or listing add-ons).

One of the reasons I'm selling on ebay is to cut down on the amount of accumulated junque, er collectibles around here anyways. So I'm thinking ANY resultant sales are still "a good thing" (thanks Martha). Good luck and good sales.

Thanks bcpostcards, the reason I am wary is that I want to list a bunch of expensive yarn. I have been waiting for an "eBay offer", but as you say, it is in writing. I guess keeping a copy of the terms would be a good idea in case a problem comes up. Thanks for your input.
