I always like these threads about yard sale finds!! Has anyone found any great deals or has everyone having yard sales started looking on ebay before selling?

The few garage sales I've been able to stop at had nothing but junk. Even the flea market is junk ridden and when you do find a nice piece it's very over priced! My boyfriend was looking at Craftman tools at the flea market and he stated that for a couple dollars more he could go to Sears and have a receipt.

I see a lot of junk too. But the occasional find keeps me going. My best recent yard sale finds have been lamps. I bought a hanging lamp for $20 and sold it for $108 and I bought a 50s table lamp for $2 and sold it for $66.

Yes me too on the junkie junk at garage sales. But I did get a few cool things that were priced right for resale! We'll see how they do. I think the flea market dealers have been way raising their prices lately too. But I guess everybody's trying to make their money. I did get two nice old parfait glasses and I just washed them and I now broke one. lol..least I didnt list them yet. I hate to list just one - at least a pair always seems better in my eyes if youre going to pay to have it shipped, etc.

I keep getting just enough good stuff to keep me going to them. It is hard though as the flea market folks go very early and some people let them go ahead and buy. I get tickled at some of the pricing. I bought some older items at one recently that were very cheap but they had their newer (used) items very high.

Parkman, I just like going and even looking. It gets me out and some exercise but I am more tickled now when I can find something for myself or my home rather than resale now.

But I scoff at some of their prices, too. This one dealer had some 70ties posters, calvin klein jean ads and such and I thought they were kinda neat (must have just appealed to my younger days) but anyway I asked her how much she wanted and she remarked she didnt think she was going to sell them because they might be worth a lot of money! I came home and researched it a bit..posters going for 9.99 if they are selling at all and even off ebay websites. But I think she thought because I was interested in them they must be worth something!? Again, as if I even know half the time! I look at stuff I like, as do most people, and of course I will look to the obvious resale things, but that doesnt mean I can sell it at a profit either. - Look at the dive McCoy Pottery is at compared to years before. But some people are in a time warp or something.

Its almost impossible to find any good buys at a flea market or a yardsale around here. Its almost like they are worried to death that you might resell it and make some money.

We were at a garage sale a few weeks ago and my fiance saw a box of toys. Well these weren't any ordinary toys, these were the older GI Joe vehicles. He bought the whole box for $4.00 and he estimated that there were at least $100.00 worth of GI Joe accessories in there if he was to sell them on Ebay. Of course he won't because he's in his second childhood and is cluttering up the house with all his "toys" including this Gi Joe stuff which is NOT small. He was happy that day.

A lady who works at the walk up restaurant at our local swap meet made a quick run through before she opened up about 3 weeks ago. She found a silver cigarette case. It had the following engraved on it: "To Sgt. York - From The Cast And Crew " She showed it to my wife, but I havn't had a chance to see it yet.

No great finds but some metal Elvis movie posters. Doubled my money on them, which ain't so hot. I was ticked at an older man I know who greeted me loudly at the yard sale with "Well, if it isn't the Ebay lady!" I could have throttled him. I must speak to him soon. . . .

Sparkz, who is Sgt York? All that comes to mind.. is ...was that another name for dick york from bewitched? But then I am thinking maybe from a different show like Sgt. Bilko or something? (that one b4 my time )

oh yea and I got a madonna poster when she was in dick tracy and it says on the bottom: "do you mind if I call you dick?" ok. Now Dont ask! hahahhaa! Now that I have it, ,I'm not so sure why I wanted it?! and I doubt anybody else will want it, but is a huge big black background one...but talk about a time warp. I think I must have been in one that day! (My poor poor husband puttin up with this stuff!)But at least it was only a dollar!

Dbl...Seargent Alvin York is probably the best marksman to ever wear a U.S. Army uniform. He won the congressional medal of honor in WW1. He single handedly captured 116 (may be wrong on the exact number) German soldiers and marched them back to his unit. When asked by the batallion commander how he did it, he replied " simple, I surrounded them". A movie was made about his life staring Gary Cooper as Sgt. York. The real Sgt York was present as an advisor during the filming of the movie. It's unknown which Sgt. York the cigarette case may have been presented to, the real York or Cooper, but either way, it should be worth more to a collector than the 5 bucks she paid for it.

Gary Cooper played in a biographical movie about Sgt. Alvin York, a WWI soldier from the south who done found the Lord before he was drafted at the age of 30. He was an excellet marksman but basically an unskilled laborer. He was against a killin' but ended up agreeing that sometimes war was moral and fought in battle. At one time, he was part of 9 American soldiers who captured 132 Germans. His escapades may have been blown out of proportion but he was considered a hero in the eys of the American Public. Probably not as highly decorated as Audie Murphy in WWII who had his autobiography made in a movie To Hell and Back.

Wow, thats neat, Sparkz! Sure will be an interesting auction with both the military collectors and or movie buffs if she is planning on listing it!

I had a 81st sweetheart pin once. I thought it was wwI, but some guy ebayer who is a big time military collector emailed me and told me it was WWII and the whole history of it! Then he showed me his pictures of all his collection. He had some!@ collection!

edit to add: The guy I got it from told me WWI, but this ebayer (and he told he sort of patrols the military auctions because there are so many rip-offs and imitations)told me how the variation was either in the way the cat was facing or the way the tail was up, I forget what it was, but nobody bought it. Lots of lookers but maybe changing it in midstream from WWI to WWII did something plus I think my shipping was too high... I was experimenting with different things at that time, and looking back I was probably way over the top on it.

I guess I need to rename myself "GarageSaleQueen" or something. I find 90% of my ebay stuff at garage sales.
We picked the "Right" sale last Saturday. I got a folding pool table from 1916 or so - a vanity shaving mirror - a bag of old old jewelry in which I found 2 pairs of gold Victorian Cliff Button, one 14K and one 18K -Bronze figurines plus more.
It was the most disorganized church sale I've even seen. Started at 7:30 - nothing was priced and they didn't finish bring stuff out until 9:30. But it was worth the wait. I did great but I missed some killer stuff too.

Great finds ladyjewels. I went to several last weekend and guess my best finds were a box of old wooden fisher price figures and a set of 1977 star wars figures (the little ones). None in great condition but not too bad. I am having a yard sale tomorrow but my next door neighbor who is not an ebayer but is a super pack rat came over and bought most of it. I would just cancel but my daughter, my sister and a friend are bringing stuff so guess it will go on.

My best finds this year was at a church sale. I was late but on this table was a bunch of jewelry so I went through it. Found a 10K ring, very unusual and a gold filled victorian bangle bracelet. Each 25 cents. What was unusual about this ring was that it had a movable piece under the top when opened up you could put a picture in it.
I think the reason nobody bought it because it had tape wrapped around the back covering the inside so you couldn't read it.

dbl. in my eBay room I have my posters hanging. Lauel Burch and Penny Feder. Those were goodwill finds.
