I sold a widget last night, it weighs over 9 lbs. I ship everything over 4 lbs by FedEx Ground. The payment was made through PayPal & was an unconfirmed address, also it was a PO box number & no street address. I denyed the payment & asked for a street address that was confirmed by PayPal. Normally I don't worry about unconfirmed addresses but this over $225.00. I received an email back stating the street address was a PO Box nmber. Now this not from a newbiem in fact this person has over 3300 pos fdbck @ 99.9%!! Has anyone ever heard of PO Box as an address?

yes...
And the reason?
A lot of folks live "Down in the boondocks..."
The USPS does NOT delivery to their street address, but rather, only to a PO BOX!
HOWEVER, he still must have a STREET address valid for UPS/FEDEX purposes...
Unfortunately, it will NOT be possible for it to be CONFIRMED...
Tell him he either has to pay big bucks for USPS delivery to his PO BOX, or else pay with an alternative payment method (BIDPAY; postal MO; etc) for FEDEX shipping!

Virtually every house in the U.S. will have a physical address. I once sold an item to a guy in Texas who owned a large ranch. He was a well known cattle auctioneer in several states. He had used a P.O. box for his personal and business mail for so many years, he didn't remember his physical address. He had to call the county clerk at the courthouse to get it.

Sanmar, in case you dont know, too, if it says RR BOX (I think that stands for rural road? or something like that - but it is a physical address.) Make him pay USPS rates dont use dc and insure it maybe? That is if you need or want the money from this buy and dont want to do 2nd chance.

He had to give the Post Office a physical address when he got the P.O. box. Also, his utility bills such as gas, electric, or even propane will have a service address as well as a mailing address. Hell, he can even dial 911 and ask the dispatcher what address is showing on the screen. I seriously doubt if he had an emergency, he would want the fire trucks sent to the Post Office.

Sanmar:
As dblfugger9 said.
If the address looks like: RR#3 Box 468
RR#3 stands for: Rural Route #3
And: Box 468 would be the house #.
You would still need to know the street name.
Anyone other than the P.O. wouldn't know the RR no matter what # it was.

I've had people mail UPS to my post office box. UPS will send a postcard to the post office box telling you that you need to pickup the package at a UPS location. Would it be possible FedEx would do the same?

My mom lives in a town of 175 people and the post office doesn't deliver mail there. Every household is given a PO Box in town and it's called 'general delivery' or some such thing. The bad part is the post office closes at 5:00pm so most of the townfolk who work can only grab their mail on Saturdays.
She was told by UPS that they will deliver to the local post office (the clerk signs for it) because of the itty bitty-ness of the town.
Perhaps this is the same situation...a VERY rural area?

Could this buyer give you a street address for someone nearby who could accept the package for him--or does everyone there NOT have a street address?!

Wendyins...I had the situation you described happen to me once. I sold an item to a person in a small town in Montana. He gave me a physical address and I sent it FedEx Ground (Home Delivery) He emailed me and said he picked it up at the Post Office. I called FedEx to find out what happened. He explained that this place was so far out in the boonies, that they didn't have a home delivery driver for the area. Since the P.O. didn't deliver in that area either, everyone got their mail at the post office, so FedEx, UPS and others would deliver all packages to the Post Office. The postmaster would sign for them and give them to the customer when they came in for their mail.

This is not true. Rural routes will have a box number. UPS can deliver to these areas as well. Did the payment say PO Box, or did it say BOX? Those are two totally different things. A PO Box is USPS only. BOX is a location. However, since you didn't get a confirmed address, cancelling the payment was the right thing to do.
