Sometimes on "Antiques Roadshow", a person will say they bought a widget for $500 in 1940. The appraiser will say it's now worth $5,000 and the person will think they really made a killing. What I was wondering is if there's a website where you can convert a specific dollar amount from the past to today's value, adjusted for inflation? Just curious...thanks!

I love that website! It will definitely help with things I bought years ago and have held on to. Like that Beauty and the Beast cookie jar that I thought would be worth $100+ by now. Still selling for what I paid when I use this tool - pd $9.99, selling for $12.50 - inflation adjusted value $12.18 - with ebay fees I'll end up with a loss. Could have been worse though, judging by the other thread...
