My daughter - who is a vet tech was visiting last week and I had a chance to pick her brain.

She gets my Frontline for me and she buys the (at a guess) 12-22 pound size. I looked up the prices on Frontline and a larger size dose is just $1.00 more.

I asked my husband and her when she got here - why can't you just buy a larger size dose and half it between two dogs?

She said you can - and although the vets won't promote it - they use Advantage that way in the vet's office on ferrets (since there is not a small enough dose for ferrets).

Advantage is more hypodermic syringe "friendly" than Frontline. She said you just want to make sure you get an exact dose for each pet and not overdose or underdose them.

Just thought I'd pass it along.....

i use Frontline Plus, because it will kill ticks as well aa fleas. I only have 1 dog so, I buy mine from 1888petsmart which is a hell of a lot cheaper than my local Vet. If I buy a 2X, there is no shipping charge. So I get a years supply at a time.

We use Advantage for our cat, and Advantix for our dog. Just a word of caution, don't get the two mixed up. Read the directions carefully and follow them exactly. Advantix can't be used on a cat. It cost me 200 bucks in vet bills to find that out.

I buy my frontline Plus on eBay, much, much cheaper than at the vets.

I have seven cats & one dog so it adds up. I don't have a flea problem because I don't have carpeting, just a few area rugs. I do have a deer tick problem though & I've already had Lyme disease once.(caught early & was completely cured.) Deer ticks are a problem around here because of so many deer, mice & other wild life. I know about 10 people that have it or had Lyme, including, my son, my building contractor, his wife, also neighbors on both sides of me.

gg, this info is very valuable because I need so many doses, but first I need to know if the formula/strength is the same for cats & dogs If it is I can easily split it by using a syringe to get the eaxct amount.

The Frontline only comes in one size for cats so I need to know if I can use Frontline Plus for dogs on cats if the dose amount & formula is the same.
Looking at the packages only one has the dosage & that's for dogs so I don't know about cats.
fipronil...........9.8%
(S)-methoprene.....8.8%

I need expert advice & information, could you ask your daughter.

Jane

DO NOT USE FRONTLINE FOR DOGS ON CATS, it can be lethal

I buy my Frontline from my Vet.. but it comes in a spray bottle. I have 3 dogs, two little Yorkies and a large Catahoula Curr..the little ones get two sprays and the Curr gets 4 or 5 different spots sprayed.. they never get fleas or Ticks. Much less expensive buying it in the spray bottle, I believe. Maggie

vintage, thanks for the reply. I suspected that, but wanted to ask just in case.
Believe me I would never give a cat anything without first checking it out throughly.

Cats are extremely sensitive to many things, NEVER self prescribe for a cat.

I guess by now everyone knows that just one Tylenol (acetaminophen) or anything containing it can be lethal. Many pain killers do contain tylenol. Avoid aspirin as well without talking to your vet.

Here is something many don't know about & something I just recently learned. Onions/garlic in any form even powdered are toxic to both cats & dogs & cause Heinz Body Anemia.

Don't forget to mention chocolate. It can be fatal for a dog.

Heinz Body Anemia

I thought that was caused by The Ketchup Diet.

gg, I never do that & also never mix flea products. It's very dangerous to put any flea product on your pet along with a flea collar. Use one or the other, NEVER both.
Use spray or powder, never both.
