well, I *have* "attended" a few of the ebay "live" auction houses ... all of them thru seller catbecca (they do a resounding business!!!) ... BUT all of the 'ebay live' auctions charge a 15-20% "buyers premium" plus s/h/i .... it's all mostly high end stuff; not all, but most.
But I must say, it IS interesting to sit in, online, on those auctions (you don't have to buy or bid to sit in on them; just 'sign up' to be in the 'online' part of it) ... it's a totally diffrent "real-time" online room that has online bidders and physical location 'floor bidders' bidding on the items .... I have bid a lot, but never 'won' anything; but really the fun was in watching the screen change, quickly, in near-real-time, and a typist goading the online bidders to bid more with little quickie blurbs they'd type in to their system, like, "this is a steal at half the appraisal; or, "this is it, closing in 20 seconds; you won't come across one of these again for a long time", blah blay ... pretty neat really ...
if you want to sign up to "attend" an online auction, just do it; cost nothing to sign up; ... then just be at your computer to sign in to their listings when their auctions start ...... catbecca's are usually on sunday evenings ... last a few hours ...

There is one I check out from time to time but no one has yet been able to tell me just where it is in New York that one can attend an auction at 1 am which is the time and place that these auctions happen and take so many "floor bids".

No, I'm saying -- I'm merely -- I'm saying what I'm saying. I don't know why I'm always having people say, are you trying to say -- you know what you can do if you want to know what I'm saying is listen to what I'm saying. What I'm saying is what I said ...

read their about Me page, or go to catbecca.com to read about their auctions ... it is pretty interesting ... you *can* leave "early" proxy bids before the actual auction day.

The auctions I'm doing lately are more DEAD than live.

I 'attend' live auctions on Ebay, and I've been on the other side of actually attending the live auction while it is on Ebay. They go fairly quickly, and any Ebay slowdown, and you could lose the item while bidding.
Also, the auction house will always knock the item down to the inhouse bidder when they can, as there are so many nonpaying bidders on Ebay, particularly when they get the final bill with the 20% premium and 3rd party shipper charge.
The auction house also passes there Ebay fees on to you, if you bid on Ebay, they will charge you an additional 5% buyer's premium, which is there cost. If you call the auction house or go to their website and place the bid, you usually save 5% on the buyer's premium, which can be up to 22% now!

Think I'll drop in on one just to see how they go - just curious, I am not personally interested in getting involved.

Does anyone know what goantiques charges the seller? As a buyer, I am TTTOOOO cheap to pay that 20% buyer fee it makes my neck go stiff just to pay 10% at auctions I attend.... I have never sat in on a live online but I should just to see from a sellers point of view.
