Okay, ebay is wacky.

I had a Playboy magazine that, after research, I stuck in the magazine section. Ebay even had a popdown menu that said "playboy"

It didn't sell, so I put 10 other magazines with it and made it a lot.

All I listed was front covers, as do all the other auctions I checked out before I listed.

So today I get this:

**PLEASE READ THIS IMPORTANT EMAIL REGARDING YOUR LISTING(S)**

We appreciate that you chose eBay to list the following listing(s):

6971993048 - 11 Playboy Including Secret Life of Marilyn article

However, your listing(s) violates eBay's MA Miscategorization policy
and has been removed. In accordance with our User Agreement, items
prohibited by law or by eBay policy are not allowed on eBay. We have credited
all associated fees to your account and notified eBay users associated
with the transaction that it has been cancelled.

In deciding whether material is adult in nature, eBay considers the
overall content of the listing, including pictures and text. For more
information on MA Miscategorization visit the following Help page:

http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/mature-audiences.html

Please note: violation of this or other eBay policies may result in
forfeit of eBay fees on cancelled listings, limits on account privileges
and account suspension.

Please review eBay's Prohibited and Restricted Items guidelines and
User Agreement at the following locations:

http://pages.ebay.com/help/sell/item_allowed.html
http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/user-agreement.html

For more information on why eBay removeslistings, or to write to us
with questions, please review the following Web page:

http://pages.ebay.com/help/confidence/listing-ended.html

We thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Regards,

eBay Trust & Safety

Why are they so inconsistent?
Why is one playboy okay, and 11 not good?

I only used covers to show bidders what was up.

"I only used covers to show bidders what was up."
----------
well as long as that is all you showed them that "was up", i don't see what the problem was.

Playboys before a certain date are considered collectible and can be listed in magazines. Newer ones have to be listed in the adult section.

I'm not sure of the exact date, but those with staples are OK and those that are glued are not.

If yours were published after that time and had the glued binding then they cannot be listed in the regular ebay section regardless of what you show in the photo (or if there is no photo).

All of mine are stapled.
I found dozens of auctions with the same magazines.

I am hoping for some kind of explanation other than a "these are the rules" email.

Thanks folks

Sometimes I think it's just a matter of who is looking at your auctions. It's a crap shoot. There's no such thing as a level playing field on eBay.

If they were the stapled kind I would start with live help and then go to Trust and Safety.

These rulings have been reversed if you want it bad enough to follow up.

Edited to add:

You can't just say "everyone else does it". You have to tell them why your listing did not break the rules. If you can do that, then they will reinstate it. Someone turned you in and the Ebay employee who pulled it didn't even look...just ended the listing. Something, unfortunately, they do all the time!

Start with the Ebay site and find the exact rule for posting Playboy magazines.

Here's the Ebay rules:

Nudity is generally not permitted on the main site, with the following exceptions:

Media - With regard to media, nudity is permitted to the extent it constitutes a small and insignificant part of a catalog, book, periodical, or other work, which is not, as a whole, primarily devoted to sexual matters. Movies with PG, PG-13, R and NC-17 ratings and pre-1980 Playboy, Playgirl and Penthouse magazines are permitted, but no photographs depicting nudity are allowed in these listings. Unrated media/movies must state that they are intended for all audiences and viewable by minors.

Did your photo have nudity on any of the covers?

You be the judge: externally linked, btw, so they won't show up in the thread itself, I HOPE!

Thanks for the additional advice. I am a looowly

I guess when I saw so many of the idential issues, I just thought, WTH!! are they thinking? I need to get the reason mine were pulled, which is a mystery.

Should I do like they do in Saudi?
Mark out the photos with a big black marker?

eBay is not likely to give you the exact reason the auctions were pulled, and they are not required to do so.
I would guess some word or combo of words caused the auction to be deleted, the pictures are pretty tame. Today you can see more female skin on any public beach.
A computer scans ads for improper words and phrases and generates the email that is sent.
Its the same machine your HMO uses to deny payment of services! Your appeal will go to a service rep. Not sure but Marilyn's name may be a trademark.
Of course there is a real good chance that someone turned you in.

I would definitely appeal. More and more people are getting these reversed and listings reinstated. Plus, it will take the mark off your id.

Start with live help, give them the link to the pix and the listing, and then ask them where to go next.

eBay usually won't cancel an auction unless someone complains. My guess is a competing seller, or someone who doesn't like Playboy magazine, filled out a complaint form.

Covering up cleavage will problably prevent further cancelations in the standard magazine catagory.

Okay...after on and off searching today, I got no "live help" love off of ebay.
Suggestions?
I haven't heard back from the folks I emailed yesterday.

Thanks again, folks!

Update:
The 1980's issues I tossed (no pun intended) into the mix were the reason I got pulled.

I think I was reported by my "competition"

(If they only knew how little they had to fear!)

Anyhow, for those who were curious, now we know: pre 1980 does not include 1980 and is considered "okay" and collectible.
Post 1980 is too risque'

Frankly I see little difference.

I just hope my Dorothy Stratton and Suzanne Somers issues sell well.

Should I move these closer to christmas?

I mean...do ya give vintage Playboys as a gift?

Inquiring minds want to know?

Anyhow, thanks for the help. This board, as usual rocks.
