Anyone ever had trouble with these cookies which apparently are an Ebay thing? This according to some web sites on Google. Completely shut down my DSL connection and only by turning computer off after deleteing all cookies was I able to get a connection. Had been manually deleting them but was negligent in doing so the past few days. No Adware and spybot have never picked them up by the way. They show up as a long series of numbers and letters. P.S asked a question some months ago about what the cookies were but only got a couple smart answers so maybe this time, I will get some pertinent ones.

They're tracking cookies.

Download CookiePal and reject them when they come up.

The cookie is a tracking cookie. Go to www.esomniture.com. They are a web analytics company. IOW, their cookies can track your surfing habits and they sell the data. In addition to Ebay, their clients include Paypal, AOL, HP, Oracle, WalMart and a host of other large corporations. That cookie could have come from any of their client web sites. Most likely you had two identical cookies and they created a conflict that shut down your connection.

I know. I found out that they were tracking cookies the hard way. Is CookiePal virus free? Ask that because I downloaded Infanview ( Graphics program) which was a suggestion on this board. and then scanned with Norton. They picked up an infected file which they were able to delete.

Thanks for the information. That is probably why my computer connection shut down.

never had any problems with esomniture cookies...if you have an eBay store and want to check on your traffic, you have to accept the esomniture cookie to go to their web site and get your traffic reports, which are helpful in tracking trends in your store.

Yes, cookiepal is virus free. I have AVG running along with CookiePal and no conflict whatsoever.

I use and highly recommend Spyware Blaster - I have protections against 3926 items. Against cookies out the yahoo but not against esomniture. You can add your own block in the toolbar with Tools/Internet Options/Privacy/Sites and putting in http://esomniture.com. Spyware Blaster is free.

"Spyware, adware, browser hijackers, and dialers are some of the fastest-growing threats on the Internet today.
By simply browsing to a web page, you could find your computer to be the brand-new host of one of these unwanted fiends!

The most important step you can take is to secure your system. And SpywareBlaster is the most powerful protection program available.

Prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted software.
Block spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox.
Restrict the actions of potentially unwanted sites in Internet Explorer.

SpywareBlaster can help keep your system spyware-free and secure, without interfering with the "good side" of the web.

And unlike other programs, SpywareBlaster does not have to remain running in the background.

SpywareBlaster is freeware for personal and educational use."

Hello,
I just loaded cookie pal and then dumped ALL my computer cookies (Near 1000). I then went back to Ebay, Pay pal, Yahoo and six or so other sites I regularly visit. Most only required 2-5 cookies a few none but Ebay need about 40 cookies?

Likely don't matter but of interest

David
