This has been a 'mystery' item to us since inheriting the antique shop contents 4.5 years ago ... Pops had a really high price tag on it, and we have not been able to find anything out about it ... it is a big heavy redder-than-terra-cotta Asian vase with dragon appearing to intertwine in and out of the pottery ... any knowledge input or help would be so much appreciated!

Well, you've got to know, Marcia, I LOVE IT. Don't know anything about it, but I do love it.

okay, my natural lighting wasn't at its best time of day when I did these up today ... hoping someone though can see the marking and make something of it? ... (of course I don't know if it is upside down or which-a-way.)

Edited to say, I will get better pictures in the daylight of tomorrow ... aready sunset here in Ohio ... thanks ...

It looks like it's Yixing, which is a porous reddish clay - it is usually used for tea related items, particularly teapots. It's fired at a very high temp and it is porous to absorb the flavor of the tea.

Difficult to tell from the pics though - I've not seen many Yixing decorative items. Here is a sample of an older Yixing teapot:

Well this was educational and maybe profitable as well. I have a tiny tea pot that looks like this. I will have to check it out. Thanks carolinetyler

Marcia...I read your about me page about your sister.

I have had FMS for about 12 years now. I don't take anything for it. Stress is a big trigger for me.

Ewora - same here - I've had it for nearly 5 years - I can usually keep it under control pretty well. But when I don't eat well or exercise enough, I can really tell the difference. I think the exercise for me is the key.
