I came across an Ann Klein necklace 3 strand. It has the little oval metal hang tag on it that says Ann Klein Couture. I did a little research (easier than those goblets I am STILL researching) Anyway, it was made sometime between 1950 & 1974. (I think) It has elongated pearlized beads with gold circles that have round lucite "stones" in them. These "stones" are amber, orange and a kind of lime green. I tried scratching the pearl beads to try to scratch off some of the pearl and it did NOT come off. I think the pearl color goes all the way through the bead. The ends, where it clips together behind the neck is very sturdy. The reason I am describing the sturdiness of it is because it IS. It is so much different than the older costume jewelry I have of my grandmother's. I have never seen anything like this unless they made it themselves with store bought beads. I hope this makes sense.

Anyway, there are only a few Ann klein necklaces on good ole ebay and they only go for about 2 - 5 bucks. Got any ideas where I can sell it for more. I know it's got to be worth more.

All thoughts on this are greatly appreciated

Do you have a photo? It sounds great.
If you list it on ebay be sure to put Couture in the title.
If you can set a price - why not run it on ebay starting it at that price - no matter how high. It sounds like the type of piece that everyone will either love or hate.
You may want to do some research of ebay as well.

$400? I think she may be living in. . .well, I don't know where she's living, but it isn't in the real world. Ann Klein is not Miriam Haskell and that's more than the highest priced Haskell on eBay. I don't know if it's how she has it displayed, but to me it's ugly.

Keep in mind that prices for things like jewelry have been deflated this summer. Your search in the fall may turn up better prices for Klein jewelry.

in the auction 5001732872, the seller has no end date in the auction. Is this from an ebay "store"? I think the one I have here is alot prettier and more classic looking than that. I'll try taking some fotos in a few hours and you can see what I mean.

Gee, this thing is hard to take fotos of with a digital camera. Here it is. If you have time, please critique the fotos. I want someone's opinion beside my own on how bad these fotos are.

I'd use the 1st and 3rd photos, 2nd and 4th are out of focus--hard on the eyes.

I agree with Max on the photos. You need better close-up pictures.

Paloma -- Use a program like Elements and crop a section of the good images for close-ups. I think you will get much clearer close-up pictures.

Close ups are so hard to get sometimes, aren't they? The 1st and 3rd pics look good. If you can find a current price on Anne Klein couture pieces it may help to reference that in the title.

Thanks for the feedback. It's greatly appreciated. With Elements, I can blow up a certain section of the foto? I have never used that software. I am going to have to buy the software I guess. I was having ALOT of trouble with the digital camera. I tried inside the house, outside with light, without light. It was a pain in the butt!

I think jewelry is tricky to photograph. I've sold many pieces from a deceased relative, and I find it's hard to get the sparkle in rhinestones. Finally, though, I discovered a spot on our dining room table where the sun comes in during 8 months of the year. I position the jewelry in the sunlight and take the picture from the shady side of the jewelry, sort of sideways, and it seems to capture the sparkle and glow pretty well. A strong light would do the job too, I think. I just sneak up to the jewels for a closeup from the side. If the picture's a good one, I'll use that for my thumbnail photo to grab the browsing folks.

Roadsmith, I found the same places at my house. They work great with sparkly stones, crystal and things like that but nothing worked with this piece. I guess it's back to my old trusty 35 MM film camera. It never fails me. DARN, It's going to take another week to take the fotos, develop the film and have time to list it. But I'd rather take the time and do it right. Could make the difference in what price it sells at.

Paloma -- With Elements, you can select a section of the image, delete out the rest and then select "save for web". Save for web allows you to tinker with an image with compression and size so that it will upload quickly and clearly. Personally, it was the best $100 that I have spent for my business.

Paloma,

Could you have had your camera too close to the necklace? My camera's owner manual claims you shouldn't be less than 4 inches away from an object. I can sometimes take a close-up a little closer than that, but if I get too close I get blurry pictures like your number 2 and 4 shots.

If you have a photo editing program, you can crop out the excess and enlarge the photo without having to get so close to the object. Also, a white box might help. They have special lights to make the "sparkle" you see on some professional jewelry photos. Your first photo is fine. The third photo looks a tad dark.

Cherished is right. You could be getting closer to the object than your camera manufacturer recommends. A good photo editing program is key.

If you want sparkle try using a multiple light source. The more lights the more sparkle.

The pictures themselves are great except for the focus on two of the pictures. A nice graphic style with great lines and nothing to detract from the necklace itself.

Lovely necklace - be sure to take a close-up of the tag as well!

Thanks everyone. I guess what I need to do is get out my old 35 MM film camera. I have an adapter for super close ups for jewelry. I'll take the foto outside. I get the best "sparkles" when I put the shiny things outside to take the fotos.

Does anyone have a copy of elements that they are willing to burn for me? (grin) I really can't afford to buy anything extra right now. Maybe I can find a cheapo copy on ebay.

You all are the best. Thanks so very much
