I know this has been asked dozens of times before, but the offerings change pretty quickly and it can't hurt to get a "modern" answer.
My ancient (1 Megapixel) camera just died. What do you recommend for a replacement?
Most of my stuff works better with a scanner, but I do need the camera for occassional odd-shaed items.
I'd like to keep it under $200 total, and less is better. Again, I'm not a heavy-duty camera user, but would like something that is:
A) Fast. My old camera would have a delay of three or four seconds between hitting the button and the actual picture, then another 10-20 seconds before anything showed up on the screen. I assum they ALL are better than this nowadays.
B) Abile to photograph small items. Little 1" tall figurines comes to mind immediately.

#2 here. I bought a used Mavica off Ebay...after my original Mavica went belly up. I had looked around at the new models but didn't think the close-up's were as clear as with the Mavica.

The problem with those FD cameras is that NONE of my PC's actually have a floppy drive anymore

no floppy drive? rather inexpensive to have one put in. (I paid $20 to have a used floppy drive installed into my one that petered out).
edited to add, I love my Mavica too.

They make Mavica with a CD now if you buy a newer model...I have two model FD-100 (Paid full price at Wally World) and FD-85 that I picked up at a yard sale for 20 ? or 30 dollars...it's been over a year. No charger but my FD-100 charger works so no need for another one.Delay of a sec or 2 and instant picture on display...it takes awesome up close pictures. Check your local pawn shop ...save shipping so it should cost about the same as eBay and you can try it there. Heres a couple of pictures it took

Have no idea what a Sony Mavica is...but I loooove the bunny picture!
Old fashioned me uses a Olympus Camediac-400 Zoom and close ups are pretty lousy.....unless I take them further back and re do them in iPhoto (Cropping does help)
But then I am a Mac user....so maybe the Sony wouldn't work for me.

I'm a Mac user too, and I use Sonys. DSC F717 and F828 for more serious shots. A Mac running OS X will recognize more cameras out of the box than a PC, without installing any drivers or other nonsense.

The Mavicas works just fine with Macs. They write in PC format but since Macs are not one dimentional it's not a problem.
The only difference I have noticed is that it takes a longer to transfer files from the floppy disk (old fd-83 model I picked up a couple years ago) to a Mac than to a PC but that may have something to do with the fact that my floppy drive is an external USB drive.

fenix, it's your external drive...floppies suck to begin with, but externals REALLY suck.
