I am going to visit my mom for 10 days. I am still running auctions and keeping the store open (I have two kids in college). I am taking the auction postcards with me so I can ship those but can't bring along all 5.500 cards in my store and folks will have to wait for those. Tell me what you think of my "On vacation message" on my store home page..think people will see it? (Store link is in my sig line) Thanks.

Thanks for the link Toasted. I know I COULD put it on vacation but as I said ,with 2 kids in college I can't AFFORD to! The option that puts a notice on your store pages (the one you can customize) puts the notice where I put mine but is very bland and can't really be seen. I don't think I want to put a notice in all my listings as I will be able to ship the auction items as usual (though if it gets to be too much of mess with combined items I might have to do that one too)
I fixed my Vendio "payment receieved" notice to explain the vacation and offers to let buyers cancel transaction if they will need the postcard sooner than I can deliver. I plan on telling store item buyers about the vacation schedule when I send the invoice and tell them they can wait to pay until I am back or cancel the transaction if they can't wait for the card. I'll just keep my fingers crossed about negs.
Usally I find if I keep people informed about when to expect their item they are pretty understanding. I have been known to call my 78 yo mom "elderly" on other visits but she doesn't like that very much

i think it looks great. i think it's quite clear to the buyer, what's going on, when you'll be back, etc.

what's a vacation?
I dunno - I think I'd put it in RED type instead of the green. The green doesn't stand out much. Maybe you could make it blinking? Lawd knows those Ebay people can't read worth a darn.

I've become more comfortable putting my store inventory on vacation, and have really not had problems with it (and I was gone longer too) - I started to put the vacation settings on a few days before, and I still had email on most of my trip, to stay in contact with people. I didn't have auctions running, I did stop those before I left.
It has worked out great! I remember summer of 2004 I could not even put the store on vacation, nothing! However, I've taken two extended trip since then, each about 3 weeks long. My customers have been VERY understanding. I also averaged about 75% of my normal sales during that time, which was hundreds of transactions too. I think maybe I got a neutral the first time for taking too long. Those that were not quite as understanding were once I told them I was on vacation, it was in the listing, and that I would ship as soon as I could. I won't go on vacation anymore without leaving my store open, unless I plan to take months off. I will be having shorter vacations over the next couple of years anyway (not because I can't, but because we are expecting and it is better not to be away as long with a baby) Have a great trip.

I agree with putting it in red - could you also put it above the picture? It did not stand out to me much at all when I looked at it - I think it was because it blended a bit with the pic above it.

CONGRATS EBAY VET!!! When is the baby due?
Thanks all for the input - I made it red now (though didn't get it as bright as I'd like - will fiddle with it later)...On top of pic or below it? I thought the text might get lost if I put it above.

The red is much better...I could see it this time ...the green was blending...Might wanna take the text size up to a bigger one so they really don't miss it

Thanks, March 21 is the due date, so I guess we are going into month 4 - this is child #3, #2 just started kindergarten which I find funny, just about to get freedom too! Guess I am giving up a little freedom for 50% more love, seems like a good deal...

Thanks GG...the html "blink" didn't work though..color is MUCH better!
Look at it this way ebayvet - you won't have 3 kids in college at once with that much spacing between #2 and 3! You will have a whole year to recover LOL and just look at how many PTA carnivals you can chair! Heck they'll make you a sustaining member!

...maybe...#2 wants to be a surgeon...she was doing surgery on her food the other day, and her favorite tv channel is discovery health - she loves watching the surgeries! She even had us tape one so she could watch it when she wants.

Thanks Marcia - this is just a little get away and not too far away cuz I am lugging 500 postcards along! Kind of spur of the moment because I haven't spent quality time with Mom for awhile. We are taking a REAL vacation in November cruising the Caribbean! Hope the Hurricane season is over by then!!
