On August 25th I mailed a package to Long Beach, Mississippi, and after Katrina hit, I looked it up on the map and saw that it was right next to Waveland, which was virtually wiped out. I realized that the address probably no longer existed.
Well, I just got feedback for those items. I was so happy to know that the buyer was safe and had received them.

that's amazing, that they a) got their item and b) could respond. a lot of long beach is now, well, splinters.

That is good news. Last Sunday, I had 4 sales to Louisianna! In the two months before the hurricaine, I had a dozen sales. None to New Orleans after, but I thought that was odd. I did have one person who was affected, and offered to let them back out of the sale. They said they were still interested, but I never heard back from them, but I won't file on them, nor give a negative. After many months, I will probably just relist.

I had a similar situtation. I sold an item to a lady that lived in a suburb of New Orleans. I had noticed LA for the state when the payment arrived and checked to see where is was with mapquest and sure enough, is was in the neighborhood. So I held the item and e-mailed everyday until she was able to respond back to me. Turns out it was a good thing I held the item. Where she lived, there was no major damage, but all delivery services were cancelled for some time. Also turns out that she is an emergency room nurse and has been quite busy of late. We were in constant contact until that day that she discoverd that the USPS was resuming delivery. In the mean time I had asked her if we gathered a few items from the neighborhood, if she would see that they go to the victims. She said to send everything and absolutely the items will get to those in need.
What a wonderful person to do business with. Wish we had more like her.

I had an item that was a few weeks overdue for payment - checked the zip and it was right in the heart of New Orleans. So I've just held on to it. Received a Paypal payment for it 2 days ago with a request to hold shipment until notified since she was an evacuee.
Now that's a good Ebayer! I emailed her back and offered to refund her payment if she would like to cancel the transaction since she may not have a place to display this pair of plates for a while!
