Recently shipped an eBay book ($16 value) to a customer in Edmonton, book was mailed from Vancouver, B.C. I use their business level "Expedited Mail" service which includes $100 insurance.
But get this, they lose the package at their Edmonton sorting plant.
Do they cover the insured value?
NOOOOO, Canada Post will only pay you the LESSER AMOUNT of the declared value, or the Seller's original acquisition cost, to quote them: For items sold to the addressee, a document showing the sale price does not constitute adequate proof of value since it does not indicate the sender's initial cost for the item.
What a crock!
I live in Vancouver BC but ship ALL my U.S. & International parcels from Point Roberts.
Now obviously, I will be shipping my Canadian items from there, too, even though I live in Canada, it just became an International destination for my shipments!

And not only that, this was a package with a tracking number, and Canada Post won't even refund the postage amount, even though it was lost or stolen in their own sorting plant!
I just changed my auction description boilerplate, all my Canada items will now be mailed only using USPS. So it goes, four years ago I was spending about $10,000 annually with Canada Post, last year it was down to $2,800. Now it will be $0!

So whats the problem? That is all you get when you file an insurance claim with UPS or Fedex.
