hey guys and gals, i've been toiling over this web page sporadically over the summer. suggestions and comments are welcome!
if anyone knows of a good html proofreader, i'd be interested in knowing of one, to doublecheck my work that way. my mind goes numb when i work on html...
if you're a postcard dealer and want to reciprocally link, let me know.

What an incredible website! Did you do all that yourself, or did you have someone do it? The look is wonderful - I love the colors and the layout.
My only suggestion is the links - I tend to like more simple pages - without too much information, but that is just my personal preference. I thought the links maybe should have a title and that bottom area looks a little 'busy'. What about putting the links on a separate page maybe?

Looks good overall, but here are a couple of minor points:
A) I run Firefox browser and the category list on the left comes up in really small print. It's not a big problem, but could be better.
B) Is all that web-ring stuff at the bottom of your homepage really necessary? How about putting it under "links" instead? My thought behind this is A) it's clutter, B) It's actually advertising your competition.
C) Maybe I have a bad connection tonight, but your images seem to load very slowly on my broadband connection. You have the right-click disabled, so I wasn't able to look at the picture properties- are these things scaled down or are they really huge? I realize you'd want big high-res images for cards you are selling, but just plain old website images ought to be scaled down and optimized for high-spped loading.
But I definitely like the look and overall design. The color scheme has a 'vintage' feel to it, and your choice of pictures is very appropriate (although the piucture files may be too large as I mentioned above).

caroline,
are you talking about the web rings looking busy on the bottom of the home page? (i think they look too busy actually, and was thinking about moving them to the links page. it's one of the reason that i need to find someone to do pull-down tabs. under links, i could put a pull-down for web rings, one for dealers, etc.)
thanks for the compliments on the look. i started working on the web page in May...yep, i did most of it myself. a LOT of trial and error, hahahaha. swearing under my breath. late nights. you get the drift

I have to agree that the bottom is far too busy. I have firefox and DSL. Took a long time to come up for me. I like the colors you've used. Easy on the eyes.

replay,
i'm glad you said that, about the web ring stuff. i don't really like where it is either. i think i'll move it to the "links" page. it would make the home page load faster.
not sure why the connection was slow for you...if you get a chance, can you try it a few times this week and see if you get the same result, esp. after i move the web rings?
except for the indian on the home page, all of the other postcard images - like at the north bay page http://www.vintagepostcards.org/North%20Bay.htm are thumb nailed. i disabled right click primarily because i put about three days' worth of work into the north bay, ontario page...and i wanted to make it harder to swipe it...
you know, i just went to the web page myself, and it does seem to be loading extraordinarily slowly tonight. grrrr....

cblev,
i was hoping the colors would be easy on the eyes. you're the third person who hates the web rings on the bottom of the home page, the score is 3-0, so i just e'mailed my webmaster and asked him to move them tomorrow, to a subsection of the "links" page
