Just curious. What was the Highest price you ever paid for anything at one or the other. Then did you re sell it for even more?

I bought 2 Galle vases at a yard sale for a little over $700. (In my younger days) They were both fakes. I still have them in a place of prominence to remind me----

i bought an antique doll at an auction down the street, for $56.00. i don't know beans about antique dolls, so i don't know why i bought it! dollar signs in my eyes, i guess.

it turned out one of the other neighbors had wanted it, and i hadn't seen her bidding. started it out on eBay at $9.99, didn't even get a nibble. the skin on the doll was ugly and cracked. then the neighbor said she still wanted the doll. about a year later, she finally paid me for it. i was thrilled just to break even. lesson learned about buying stuff outside of my area of expertise.

Yardsale blunder. They were dolls and I grabbed a bunch of them before someone else beat me to it. Great condition and I paid $10.00 each for them. got them home and little girl(monster) had cut the hair short on the back of them. I put them in my yardsale and got rid of them for much less.

.I bought 18 Madam Alexander dolls at an auction a couple of yrsago. They were all in the "Presidents Lady" series. I opened the bidding at $40.00 & no one else bid. My cost was $792.00 & I sold them on eBay & averaged over $60.00 each. Martha Washington went for $200.00!!!

Bought house at a yard sale. Does that count? $62,500 -- sold it for a small profit five years and a new roof later.

Darling, as we say in the south, it was just another boxlot.

Did I mention I didn't NEED a house ... already had one. Too many auctions, too many split decisions, too many gut "sure I'll take that!"

I also got a car at a garage sale. Drove it for years and years.
We also got a boat at a thrift store (does that count) which we still have - great little sailboat. Paid $400 for the boat, trailer & 4 1/2 HP motor. All were like new - the manager said a guy who gave it to them said his wife said it was her & the kids or "The Boat".

Hmmmm... highesst price I paid at an affluent estate auction a few years ago, was a gorgeous lamp AND separately a gorgeous mantle clock, both marked "Tiffany's Of Paris" paid just over $2,100 for them ...

After much marketing (=$ out too) with no sale yet, finally sold them to just "cut my losses" .... those suk, Jack ... can you bring up a more cheerful subject please? LOL ...

(okay,... I'm over it. ... I'm over it...

I'm over it. .... I'm over it.

(just had to mention this here because it WAS the most I'd paid for items at estate, and screwed myself in the outcome) ...

I once went to a picnic and they had a raffle. Bought a ticket and didn't win. The ticket wasn't expensive, but while there I met my future wife. Been paying through the nose for 25 years and there's still no end in sight.

I bought some John Wayne Paperdolls and paid $8.00, fell for the ole line "These bring big money on E-Bay!" I finally sold them for $3.50 in my E-Bay store to get rid of them.

Bought a bride doll,150.00, at a yard sale, lady said it was hers when she was a little girl. It looked old & so did she.

Liar, found out later she bought it on QVC for about 50.00 It wasn't old, just dirty.

Everyone I showed it too knew where it came from...except me. Duh

My husband and I bought a 90 year old Bosendorpher grand piano for $3000 23 years ago. Its down in the living room as I type. Even though it was alot of money for us at the time we could make ALOT more if we sold it now. Sometimes your smart!!! sometimes....
