I had a diamond ring up on auction with "Make an Offer", the buyer made an offer on Sept 20th.

She emailed me asking if she can pay the whole amount with paypal, the auction states only 500.00 with paypal and the balance with a Cert. Bank Check.........so I tell her no, please follow the auction payment

Next day she emails me asking me if she could send a personal check.........I say no
Same day she emails me again asking if she can have 7 days to evaluate the ring.....I said Yes.
Then I don't hear from her for 5 days so I file for my fees for NPB, and I relist the ring.
She contacts me when she got the NPB email and says she will pay for the ring.

MY QUESTION IS:
Am I obligated to sell the ring to her or can I refuse,
I am getting bad feelings about dealing with her so I don't want to complete the transaction with her.

I would feel obligated to sell to her, if she is willing to send a certified bank check for the entire amount.

Buyer could file seller non-performance complaint, and you could risk getting a neg.

Go with your gut feeling, if you don't feel good about the transaction.

If she has responded to the UID, you can immediately close the dispute and get your fees. Do it now!! You are dealing with either a deadbeat or a scam artist. They have tried several times to try to change your TOS, and still have not paid you a dime. Keep your relist active and hope for an honest buyer this go-around. The bad vibes you are feeling are well founded.

Sparks, are you saying I can just refuse to complete the transaction and it will be ok?

I am feeling everything your saying and thats not a good feeling.

I really don't care if she does neg me and I don't care if ebay don't give me back my fees. I am not feeling good about completing this auction with her I feel there might be more problems down the road with her.

Don't go through the transaction if you don't feel good about it.

Tonimar1...What I am saying is that if you filed the UID, and she responded in that forum, you can immediately choose the option "I don't wish to correspond further" and close the dispute and get your fees back. If she didn't respond in the dispute forum, but rather via email, you have to wait the 7 days from filing, and when the blue "eligible for refund" checkmark appears, you can close the dispute and get your fees refunded. The pretty part about the second scenario, is that if she doesn't participate in the UID process, Ebay will remove any neg she leaves for you, but you will be free to fire away at her with your best adjectives in the feedback forum and she can't have it removed. If you just filed the UID in the last couple days, you may have to string her along for a few days until the clock runs out. If this were a $4.99 item, it wouldn't be worth losing sleep over, but when it comes to $500.00+ it's time to play hardball. I don't blame you a bit for your uneasy feelings. The only way I would complete this transaction with that person would be if she came to my front door and counted out the full amount in cash while my Rottweiler watched.

I closed the case,
I didn't know I could do that, I would have done that a few days ago but I didn't know till you mentioned it Sparkz,
Thanks Sparkz and Sthoemke

Now I'll wait and see what happens with her. lol

Don't forget to put her on your blocked bidder list!

Wow! Glad you were able to close the complaint. Did you leave feedback first?

I have found that every single time that I have a gut negative feeling about a transaction, it goes bad. Always trust your gut feeling...

Minnestuff is correct. Put this character on your blocked bidders list and move on. There are plenty of honest people out there who want a diamond ring. Just do me a favor, don't mention this auction to my wife

Hi Minnie
Yes she is on my block list, that was the first thing I did when I didnt hear from her,

Feedback I only leave after the buyer leaves it first.
If it wasnt for Sparkz I would not have known I could close the case,

Thank you again Sparkz you have made my night bearable, it was bothering me so much that I couldn't sleep.
Now I wait to see if she negs me which I don't care, peace of mind is more important to me then a neg feedback.

If she negs you, come right back here and tell us about it. We have a couple posters to this board who are monitoring the new feedback removal policy very closely. They will be able to advise how to get the neg removed. Now, go to bed and get a good nights sleep. There's a sheik in Kuwait looking at that ring right now. He wants it as a gift for his daughter and is willing to outbid anyone in the world to get it.

I love your positive thinking Sparkz........

She just emailed me saying.......I will go to the bank tomorrow to get a check, is the ring still available?

I don't need to answer her, right?

I'm off to bed to have a lovely dream.....lol

Once the FVF is refunded to the seller, the transaction is cancelled. You have no further obligation to this person. Your main focus now should be in getting the shipping rates to Kuwait. You may also want to look up the rates to Saudi Arabia, just in case someone in the royal family decides to get into a bidding war with the guy in Kuwait.

Good morning

I received my FVF Credit for the ring.

I also have another auction which is 3 original Car White Wall Tires that ended with "Make an Offer", ended on Sept. 25th.

I emailed him asking if he will be picking them up or are they going to be shipped because I need to get the actual shipping cost to his zip, the shipping cost listed is to a further zip code area. He has not contacted me yet Guess I will wait a while longer.

I like the feature of Make an offer but each time I use it my buyers fly the coop.......

This feature would be better if they had it where when the offer is accepted the auction does not end till the buyer makes some kinda payment with paypal.

I was asking 250.00 he offered 150.00 I accepted.

"Immediate PayPal payment required."

If you like the feature, but buyers fly the coop, I don't understand just what you do like about the feature!

It's just like at a show, when a potential buyer asks if you'll take X amount for something, you agree, and he then walks away needing to "think about it."

i'm with birgittaw on this one...why DO you like this feature if it doesn't result in sales?!!! all it's resulting in is wasted time. eBay should have just named it "let's go bottom fishing"

The reason I like the feature is because it gives me the chance to sell my item and taking a little less then I started with it's not a problem.

It also makes money flow sooner,

Are you saying that when I use the "Make an offer" I can also use "Immediate PayPal payment required." and that would mean the auction will not end till payment is made?

No, I was wrong about Immediate Payment -- at least it doesn't show as an option with Best Offer.

Guess it really doesn't work. You proved it yourself.

Sounds like this person only wanted you to get your item off of the system. Best offer must go away.

Well, I don't really know if it works good or not, It's only been two auctions that I had a problem with.

But so far I am finding out that lots of buyers do make offers but they think you find the merchandise on the street corner.........lol

"Make an offer" feature is good for serious buyers. I have used this feature on Cars I sold and it worked out very good, thats because they were serious buyers, I will still use this feature on certain items and when I feel the deal is going bad I will do like sparkz mentioned.......

Stone ....you might have a good point about someone wanting my item off the system, I didn't think of that.

My take on the best offer feature is that it will bring out the bottomfeeders, cheapskates, and mentally unbalanced in droves. It also provides a devious competitor with a perfect opportunity to sabotage an honest seller's auction. Use that feature with caution.

Good Morning

Yes Sparkz thats exactly what I have been seeing lately. But like you said, use it with caution.

The buyer who made an offer on my car tires contacted me, he is coming this Sat. to pick them up.
His offer was a fair offer but the offer I got before his offer was 25.00 for all 3 Original White Wall Tires with no ware on them.(a real bottom feeder)
