I had a sale on September 30th. Buy It Now, no payment received.
I sent another invoice last night and received an email in response telling me:
I paid for this item immediately through PayPal. I have the receipt to prove that I did.
Thank you.
I received no payments from anyone on September 30th much less from the name indicated for the listing. There is no payment in PayPal for this item on the 30th, 1st, 2nd or 3rd. There is no payment indicated or PayPal details shown in My eBay for this item either.
I emailed the buyer and asked if perhaps they mixed my auction up with another and paid for it, or put in the wrong email address. I've not heard back from them.
I don't want stung with another bad feedback over something I have not done ~ what if she insists that she has paid??

Simple - tell her to please send you the PayPal transaction number. She will have to provide it to ebay to prove she sent payment while you file against her anyway.

She has excellent feedback and almost all of her transactions are paid for immediately. I think maybe she thinks she paid for my auction but she really paid for someone else's.

Did you try a search in paypal "history" for the transaction number or buyer email address to make sure? Ask her to send you the transaction id number and you can search for that too.

Just be very nice and tell her you are having a problem finding her payment. you have searched under the item number and her email address and found nothing. Ask if she could please send her the transaction number so that you can get this cleared up.
One way or another, sounds like someone is making an honest mistake.

I looked under her name, her email address, the date (I had no payments made to me on the date of the sale, not a single payment from anyone~!)
I looked in the payments for the first 3 days of October (there aren't a lot of them so it's not hard for me to go through them).
I checked in my eBay. I clicked on the actual auction itself and it says at the top "You have sent an invoice to the buyer on October 3rd." It does not say "PayPal payment sent to you on September 30, 2005" like it would if there had been payment made.
There is no listing for "View Paypal payment details" in the pull down bar with the relists, etc beside the item. There is no indication payment was made in any way shape or form in My eBay.

The payment only totals $11.99. It might not seem like a lot of money but to me it is and if I had that $11.99 in my PayPal account I'd know it.

Then you aren't out of line to ask for the transaction number and search for that in PP history "advanced search" - perhaps PayPal is screwed up.I have had payments receievd that don't show in ebay at all. You might have her do a search too to verify that payment did indeed go through to your email addy.

This happened to me one time...instead of using checkout they just filled in the information themselves. They ended up making a mistake in the e-mail so it was just floating around out there somewhere. I agree with the others and ask for the transaction number or ask her to check the address that she sent to.

Just try to work through it with her step by step without getting defensive - easier said than done, that's for sure. I wish I could take my own advice!

I think I'd be tempted to copy and paste in a message to her whatever PayPal does say about the transaction (you've sent buyer an invoice, etc.)

I agree with neglus; Tell her that you can't find a record of payment & ask her to please send you the P/P transaction number. With that you can call P/P & they can find out where the payment is.

Tell her to log into her PayPal account directly and look for the transaction. Tell her that logging into ebay will not confirm proper payment. Make sure to send her your payment ID and have her double check it only in her PayPal account. You can bet that she has one small error in the payment address.
When she e-mails back to let you know of the error, explain how to cancel the mistaken transaction.

Go into your, "My Ebay" and click on the items that sold.
Pull the auction in question up and if it has been paid it will say right under your item title: "This item has been paid for through PayPal. Payment was sent to:"
If it is still pending it will say that, as well.
I had a mix up like yours a while ago, and the sold auction said the payment was pending, though he insisted he paid.
I phoned PayPal and they had it on record, he mailed it to the wrong email and that was the reason it was pending, and in limbo I might add.
I emailed him and eventually he got it right and I received my PayPal payment.
When you send an invoice it will have that information stated also.
I like that feature, try it and see what happens.

She sent the payment last night. She said when I told her I checked in both PayPal and My eBay and found nothing she wondered what happened and found that she THOUGHT she paid but she hadn't.
I didn't think she was scamming me because her feedback was very good but I knew darn well I hadn't been paid!

I am glad it worked out. One GOOD thing about PayPal - there is a trail for payments and nearly impossible to get scamed as far as sending/ receiving payments are concerned.
One thing that concerns me is that scammers COULD fake an ebay invoice with a "Pay Now" button - buyer would think he/she paid but in fact had just been phished. Hard to believe scammers would go to all that trouble for a $12 sale but once they had the scam programs in place I guess the amount of sale wouldn't matter.

I didn't think she was scamming me, I just didn't know how to prove that she didnt' pay when she thought she did.
It all worked out though so no problems!

Good Job Helga
It's not always easy to deal with that situation in a way that does not end up with the buyer getting defensive and it turning negative. Sounds like you handled it perfectly.
