I agree jack! At first I thought this was a good idea but it is a NIGHTMARE!!! I don't even look at those questions on ebay anymore but just answer the ones that come through my email ... I have 114 messages in there now and I refuse to open them! The "no quotes" thing and the teeny tiny little viewing box are just too hard to work with plus you have to read in two places..HORROR SHOW!!!! I never try to sell anything outside ebay but I really do like having a link to my ebay store at the bottom of each of my emails to buyers...no way am I using that mess of a communication system!

I can see where quotes would be a good thing to have, but why would you want HTML? Not everyone has an email reader that displays HTML or has HTML turned off for security reasons.

I agree with Jack and Neglus, its a nightmare.
You cant use " for inche, anything that is not just straight font typing gets kicked out. If you want to proof read, your looking in a tiny box....... couldn't they give more room to see what your typing????

replay - I think Jack was just quoting the error message that came up when he tried to send his message to a seller friend "No HTML, Quote.." in red at the top (at least they stopped erasing the whole message when the error came up - maybe someone reads these boards after all). I don't think he WANTED HTML - just wants the thing to work PROPERLY...
All in all it's a nightmare and I, for one, refuse to use it. If I answer via ebay, I have to use the teeny tiny window and remember not to use quotes and then go find it in my email to delete. If I answer through my email I would have to go into my ebay and figure out which ones I answered. If I answer through email but click on link to answer through ebay then I have to use the teeny tiny window thing and remember not to use quotes - I still don't get to answer questions from users who hide their email address...FORGET IT!! I am just answering the OLD way through email and ignoring the mounting number of communications shown in "My Ebay"!

posted on October 9, 2005 09:32:01 AMGuess I will have to be odd gal out, I like the Question area of eBay, it saves me tons of time, from answering redundant e-mail, (which I no longer answer anyway).
I write ALL MY RESPONSES both to eBay & Yahoo Questions, and to any other forum questions in Microsoft Word. There I can easily re-read my answer, plus grammar and spell check it.
IF it is a question I am often ask (normally in particular forums), I just save the response for the next time I need it

I like the IDEA of the whole thing - it's just the EXECUTION that's a problem! If the "Ask Seller A Question" just came through ebay (not to email) AND the reply place were better designed, I would just use that. Since it's not well-designed and a PIA, I'd rather use my email and ignore "My Ebay"..I am NOT going to deal with these in TWO places!!
It might work ok for hobby sellers but when you have 600 auctions running and 5800 store listings, one can imagine the number of ASAQ I get (not to mention the ones from buyers who email to tell me that they are mailing a check, or received the shipment, or the lookers that tell me that they were married in that church, born in that hospital, father buried in that cemetery...or the ones that tell me the battleship I have listed is really a cruiser, that the view in the postcard is from 32nd St and not 33rd like it says on the postcard, or the ones that tell me I forgot to attach a picture - I am very thankful for those emails). An email program has to work well or I CAN'T use it and this one just doesn't work.
I got so burned out from trying to keep up with email in both places in August that I ignored them all for a week. THAT IS NOT RECOMMENDED!!!! (I have 3 negs to prove it ) Finally I decided "one or the other" and email won.
Let me know if they enhance the ebay system so it's usable.
-------------------------------------
I have been using the automatic responder to our auction and web e-mail now for a bit over a month, with no negs, and seemingly no unhappy customers.
Apparently, those with some serious questions call our shop and get an immediate answer to their issue. Those with stupid questions, perhaps are now re-reading the ad and finding their answers.
I will report back in another month as to how this is working.
Wishes for a blessed week

I wrote to ebay today asking them to to remove or turn off, my messages. or give us the choice of turning them on or off. this is the reply i received back.
---------------------------
Thank you for writing to us. I appreciate the opportunity to assist you
with your questions.
I understand you would like to have your My Messages removed and/or
turned off. Please keep in mind that this feature is available to you
as a member of eBay to communicate with other members. I understand
that it may be frustrating to go through all the messages you receive in
regards to your auctions. Not to mention that being a Power Seller will
often generate more messages than other members would typically receive
in a day. However, please understand that this feature is set up for
both your protection as well as protection to eBay. Messages that go to
your My Messages box are ones you can know for sure are coming from eBay
or eBay members. This cuts down on spoof emails as well as helps
protect your privacy.
Furthermore, because of the need to protect both our eBay members as
well as eBay itself. The option to disconnect the My Messages Link or
remove the link for members to contact the seller on your auction pages
is not available.
I do apologize for the frustration this may cause you, however, surely
you can understand the need to protect the privacy of both you as well
as other members of the eBay community.
I'd also like to take a minute to tell you about a great new resource
available at eBay that will help you get the most out of your selling
experience. It's called the Solutions Directory, and it provides you
quick access to eBay and third-party software and services designed to
improve your productivity and grow your business.

I wish you the best with your future transactions.
