I need help. I sold an item a while back and deleted the photos. I listed another similar item and used the SAME name for the JPEG files. These new pics show up on the OLD auction! The buyer says that he wants a refund because the new photos are showing up on the old auction and he believes that the current item is what he's won. Whew! I've tried to explain to him that photos of the same name will autopopulate an old auction sometimes. He won't hear of it. He's called me a liar etc. Anyone else had this problem??

Did he receive his item? Did he leave feedback? Why was he looking at the old auction?

Original auction was about 2 weeks old. He won a SUIT and the new auction was for a SPORTCOAT! Different colors, items, sizes and content. He has since filed a claim with ebay "significantly not as described"! can you believe this? Apples and oranges! Bottom line.........has this happened to anyone else but me? Old auctions that autopopulate with the photos of a NEW auction if the file names are the same??

Allen on the bright side he'll have to mail the suit back and have proof he mailed back to get a refund. So at least your not out your item.Crazy world we live in. I say at this point never ever name a jpg the same name again. Sorry you've ran into what sounds like a real creep.

Thanks man! You got that right. This guy's a real numbskull who won't listen to reason. I will NEVER name a JPEG file the same name again!! I've asked him in at least 4 emails what color was the suit that he bid on and what color was the suit he got. What size, content etc and how does it differ from the WRITTEN description. He refuses to answer. What a jerk.
thanks for all of the support. This is certinly cheaper than therapy!

Allen...Right now I have about 8 collectible , limited edition items that I will be listing. I will simply copy the original auction, but the picture with the original serial number will have to be replaced in each new auction. Each of these pictures will have to have a new and distinct name. Each auction will have 8 pictures, and the first 7 will be repeated in each auction, but the eighth, with the number, will have to be edited into each new auction before launch. This is one of the features that I like best about Vendio. They make this a piece of cake to do before the auction launches. Never uses identical file names for new auctions if the originals are still on the servers.

Thanks Sparkz! You sound like a man who's had some experience with the trouble associated with using the same file names! :0) Never again will I go down this road.
Again, thanks to all that have replied. It's certaily reassuring to know that there is a place to go to regain one's sanity! Sometimes these guys actually make you feel like YOU'RE the crazy one!

Don't feel bad Allen, I did nearly the same thing a few years ago - except the picture was correct during the auction that the bidder won. After the auction was over I named a pic the same name, similar item - federal style mirror, but the second one was much nicer.
Buyer, an obnoxious attorney in New York of course, gets his item doesn't like it (he overpaid for it by about $150) checks the description of the closed auction and sees the new, better mirror pictured in it.
Of course he negs me - it was my first one too, and he called and left a message on my answering machine about it. I returned his call leaving a message and explaining what happened. Never heard from him again - that was before the days of the mighty long arm of the law, Paypal.
If I have an 'item not as described' customer complaint, I usually ask them to let Paypal handle it and mitigate it since a 3rd party can often offer an objective, fair solution. They usually don't want to jump through the Paypal hoops and I never hear from them again.
Hope it works out OK for you.

Sorry this happened to you. I solve the image problem by naming the image and adding a date at the end of the name ie: "suit1019" instead of just "suit"...of course I might add the same image next 10-19 but by then the old auction will be history in the ebay files.

Is the second auction stil live with no bids? (can you still revise it?)
If so, you could:
1. make copies of the 2nd auction pictures with NEW names
2. upload the new pictures and revise the auction to point to them
If your images are in Vendio, then you can:
3. delete the images that have the overloaded name (and be sure to empty them from the trash)
Then they should disappear from the old auction. If you want to be sure, you can
4. upload the auction #1 original pictures with the original overloaded names,
or to have some fun,
upload something entirely different (pictures of your jack-o-lantern?) with the
original overloaded names - for a nice surprise when the old auction is viewed.

You all have been wonderfully helpful and kind. I think I got his goat.
I went to an ended auction for a shirt and I loaded a NEW JPEG file of a sportcoat that was named the same as OLD JPEG file in the old auction and guess what? It was the photo of the SPORTCOAT instead of the shirt! Go figure. I emailed him to tell him that it was wrong and to look for himself. I don't expect I'll get an email back. Don't know if I mentioned this or not, but he bet me $1000 that photos of an old auction cannot be changed after the auction's end! How do I collect?? :0)

If he said that I would change the image to this one....
Just save it, rename it and upload.

The photos can be changed on vendio. All you do is to delete the original photo. select another photo you have available. say a photo of a pig.change the photo number to the same as the original photo you had on the auction. Then re load the photo back onto vendio.
Then go back to the old auction do a refresh and it should be there.
the main thing is that you use the exact same photo number or id.

Kudos to fenix03! That is what I am going to do! Unfortunately I cannot change the photos because they are attached to a live auction but as soon as the auction ends and I get paid, you can BET I will use it! You're the best. :0)
I did actually change photos of an ended auction and showed him. Didn't change his mind. He's abundantly obnoxious and haughty. He says "God will get me". Ok.
