I had an auction end last night without any bids. This morning I receive an email through "Question from ebay member" asking if the item was still for sale. I emailed right back and told her yes and that I would do a "Buy it Now" for her if she wanted. As soon as I clicked on "send", I noticed that the email was from ebay.com! Needless to say, I never heard back from that person...

If your auction ends without a bid, your "contract" with eBay also ends. You're free to sell off eBay if you wish. The email you received was probably sent thru ask seller a question, and the buyer checked the box to keep his email private.

Ooooooooohhh. I feel better now. Maybe I'm becoming paranoid in my old age. Thank you for the explanation.

I've gotten to where I will not click on reply from my inbox anymore. If it's a legitimate Ebay question I go into My Ebay and answer from there AND I click on "hide my email address". There's just too many phishing emails to take a chance.

I do exactly what Glassgirl does. No need to take chances, even if it's a little inconvenient.

annekila...Ii guess ebay isn't monitoring these boards too much. The e-mails that seem to come from "ebay.com"... are actually from buyers that "hide" their e-mail address. If a buyer asks you a question about an item AND clicks HIDE MY E-MAIL address..then it will show "[email protected]" as receiver of your response if you simply reply through your normal e-mail reply button and NOT ebay's way. Problem here is that ALOT of answers to questions NEVER make it back to the buyer. We think we reponded to the buyer, when actually it went back to ebay somewhere.
