CHECK AGAIN!!!! EDITED TO ADD: YOU HAVE TO SIGN OUT TO SEE WHAT OTHERS SEE ON YOUR CLOSED LISTINGS>
Once the announcement came out on the 13th I KNEW i wanted no part of this insanity and opted out immediately. Yesterday I was just fiddling around, signed out and then looked at one of my closed listings...
Right under my cross promotions are ITEMS FROM OTHER SELLERS!!
I thought I opted out of this program!!! It turns out ebay added two new boxes that don't show here'''
You have to click "EDIT" and all of a sudden the 2 last options show - you have to uncheck those too!!

Thanks! What the He** is Ebay doing?
I cannot believe how they try to sneak things past us! Like I've said before, Ebay doesn't care which seller it gets the end of auction final value fees from, just as long as they get them from someone.
I know for a fact that there were only 2 options, not 4, last week, I believe it was Tuesday or Wednesday, as I was showing someone how to opt out of this "enhancement".
I think I will go through all of "My Preferences" sometime today to make sure they didn't change anything else...
Edited to add: First, Ebay included everyone in this option and we had to "uncheck" boxes to opt out and now this...I am more than a little disgusted with Ebay, why don't they work on NON PAYING bidder enhancements!

I don't know, maybe I'm not getting it. Other seller's things show up on your notices, but yours also show up on other seller's notices reaching people you may not have reached before. So, please someone, fill me in on the details as to why this is a really horrible thing!!

1. If I have 5800 items for sale in my store and buyers are in a buying mood, I don't want them leaving my pages!!! I work too hard to get them there in the first place!
2. Watched item notices and "my ebay" watch lists will have links to similar items by other sellers...and you wonder why watchers don't buy???
3. Other sellers could be shysters and look like they are affiliated with you.
Try looking at the items showing on YOUR closed items and see if you REALLY want them there!!!

Thanks, neglus. I think it may also draw sellers who want the competition eliminated to your auctions. Never thought of that. I'm rushing over to make the changes now!!!

Neglus,
You're entirely right. When I saw the earlier thread, I immediately My Ebay'd and negged all eBay's preferences, removing anything from my closed auctions linking me to someone else. Just checked my last 30 days and all the closed ones appear free of cross-bidder spam.
I sell mostly books and have worked so hard on my listing format and quality to establish my reputation, how could it possibly benefit me to link to some other seller and watch a potential bidder wander away, or even worse, to have an auction linked to some bozo who mis-describes items, has a poor feedback rating, doesn't know how to spell, takes crappy photos, gouges on shipping, or some other poor service area that isn't the way I do my business? Baffling eBay policy for sure.

Neglus: I just took a look at those four preferences and decided to opt out only from the box for current and watched items. I figure if someone out there doesn't get Widget #1 from another seller, no harm in his seeing my Widget #1 currently offered, etc. Ditto for visitors and others looking at completed auctions. At least I'm going to try those other three options for a while and see how it goes--with fingers crossed.
However, if I sold only one thing, over and over, I wouldn't opt for any of these! Wouldn't make sense.

Neglus - I checked one of your completed auctions that had a start date of 10-16 and that cross-seller info was not on it. I'd bet that it is or will be on all of the completed auctions that were started before you opted out.

Cherished - I think it's on the auctions ending OCT 19 -Oct 22 (I finally figured out how to opt out of the last two options on the 23rd so those ended auctions don't (at least I hope not) the other seller cross promotions. I think it has to with what your options were when listing ends and not begins.

This really gets my goat! I spend alot of money on my listings between Vendio (including their gallery), paying for gallery pic on all of my listings, occasionally using subtitle and sometimes even listing a featured plus listing. My money and hard work are going to promote other sellers' items, some of whom don't even add a picture to their listing! I don't think so!
Ebay really screwed us on this one. I've opted out of everything. Why should I pay so much money drawing bidders to MY listings only to have EBAY promote my competitors items on MY listings or in e-mails meant to remind bidders of their watched item?
I'm really ticked about this!

How do I opt out of this?
I think I found it but I'm not sure.
My main competitor has not so stellar feedback and no so nice pictures. I don't want her stuff showing up on my listings.

Helga ... Click on "preferences" on the left side of your "my ebay" page. You'll see "promoting similar items ..." Click on "show" and you can edit it from there.

Neglus: I posted about this on your other thread. I did a live chat with eBay and as I understand it the crosspromos will be on all closed listings that launched prior to the opt out. I do think it wierd that you have to log out to see them on your own listings. You think there are folks out there who don't have a clue they are advertising someone else's stuff and Ebay likes it that way?
Thanks for the heads up on this.

I am SURE there are sellers right here on EO who don't have any idea that they are advertising other people's merchandise. I THOUGHT I had opted out from the get go so went several days before checking...WHAT A SURPRISE!!! It's VERY sneaky of ebay..whoever heard of a thing like this being something you have to OPT OUT of instead of IN TO!!
I can't see how this would be good for anyone's business! Unless you are the only person selling in your field, the people with the most listings will probably benefit the most from this (I haven't checked but if it includes STORE LISTINGS you are really SOL) How are the listings being promoted selected when there a thousands that match (for example a Miami FL postcard could have thousands of matches - my sister even told me that one of my listings showed REAL ESTATE in Miami ROFL!) I don't trust ebay's RANDOM selection for a second.
I do think it goes by date ended and not launched - my yesterday sales don't show other seller's items (at least the ones I checked didn't) but the ones that ended a few days before did. I didn't opt out of those last two boxes until yesterday afternoon.

I just saw one of these on a closed auction for a seller I was looking for - it stinks for sellers! I ended up on the other seller's pages and never went back to the original auction I had seen.
Why in the heck would they do this? I'm opting out - why in the world would I want to advertise a competitor.

One more little rant ... I pay to have an ebay store. It really ticks me off that my competitors listings are on my closed store items!

I just learned how to get the screen shots today (figured it would save a lot of words).
You push "ALT" and "print screen" at the same time. Then you open up your image editing program or Paint in Word (I used IRFAN) and press "CTRL" and "V" at the same time and the image is pasted. You can save as a JPG or GIF file. I resized a little to post on here.

I was checking some of my other eBay preferences, and looked at 'Third-party authorizations', and see one called 'ebay.com - blackthorne' which was authorized on October 18th. Now I know I didn't authorize anything myself, so what is Blackthorne?

This just reinforces why my website is out selling ebay 10:1. Plus I haven't even promoted it yet. It is clearly time to start thinking about leaving ebay for greener pastures.
