These silver salt and peppers were never used and in great condition. I go over my stuff with a fine tooth comb like a crazy lady. Please read on, they sent this yesterday:
"hello i am very disappointed. they are in fair condition. they are worn on outside. it is way too much for what they look like. can i send back or will you refund some of my money. thank you"
I told her I was sorry she was disappointed and to send them back, I would give her a full refund plus shipping both ways.
Haven't heard anymore yet, of course it has only been one day, but I'm the nervous type.
Do you guys think she is trying to get a little money off me and still get to keep the salt and peppers?
Will see if she sends them back.
She has not bid on a thing over $3.00 in the past month. Our item was $29.00.

Sounds like buyer's remorse. If you are positive about the condition, they could be switching the item with a used one.
In any case, I wouldn't send a refund until they are sent back and examined.

I hadn't even thought about them switching the item, but you are right.

If they were in the condition you described, why would you entertain giving a refund? Especially to include shipping both ways. Buyers remorse is not a reason to bend over for your buyers.

Next time, tell them that when you receive the item and CHECK YOUR HIDDEN SELLER'S MARK. That would stop any switcheroo. Has she bought anything similar recently?

On the subject of switching items I always take huge jpegs of items worth a bit of money or items I think someone may want parts from. I make sure at least one of the pics includes the flaws and if there are screws it will contain the orientation of the slot head or the x from the phillips head. Even items in mint condition usually contain a few flaws. In this way you don't need a secret mark as the flaws are the fingerprint. I reduce the size of the picture before uploading to my auction of course.

Satisfaction guaranteed is stated in all my auctions and the email I send before shipping their item, except on an "as is" one here and there. It's a policy I have had from the very beginning.
Surprisingly, there have only been two buyers other than this one in the 7 years I have been selling on Ebay who have had buyers remorse.
There have been about 4 returns in those years, but all legitimate. I always refund with shipping both ways.
99% of the buyers are what is giving us a really nice extra income in our retirement years, so I don't mind going that extra mile even when something unpleasant comes up.
She has not bought anything similar or is bidding on anything like it.
I can see from her other wins, she is not used to spending more that $5.00, and she gets a lot of beads and jewelry and stuff for $1.00 to $5.00, with low shipping.
I guess to her mine was a high ticket item

If that's your policy and you state you take returns, then by all means offer a refund on the purchase price - but don't lose money on refunding shipping both ways - just because she may have buyer's remorse, you shouldn't have to eat a shipping charge either way.

She just emailed me she will be sending them back today or tomorrow. I will let you know the rest of the story once received.
Thank you all for your help.

I had a buyer who said he felt the condition of the item he bought wasn't as described...it was a very collectible item. I told him he could send it back for a full refund after I verified it was the same item I sent (I told him I marked all items). He decided to keep the item. Lesson learned. I do mark all items that could be susceptible to switching with a "black light" pen...a tip, by the way, that I got from folks here on this board!

Well, the latest on this continuing story is she posted a positive for me this morning. Of course I did not reciprocate. I haven't even received the salt and pepper shakers yet to give a refund.
Maybe she is just grateful the refund will be coming. Who knows?
Where can I purchase a black light pen?

Well, the salt and pepper shakers were returned to me today, in great condition just as advertised in the auction.
Clearly a case of buyer's remorse. I refunded as promised.
Thanks again for listening.
