Except I didn't bid.
What is to be gained by this kind of scam?

The item # in the email is clickable. I didn't click on it, but did look up the auction number & it does exist. It's for a Bath & Bodyworks product.

Jane:

Do a "VIEW MESSAGE SOURCE" off the PROPERTIES menu & you'll see where that "clickable link" really goes to!

Probably some Vlad in Romo or some Lad in Lagos...

I'm sure of that, just don't know what they get out of you clicking on a link.

Tom is right. It will either lead to a phony sign in page, or it will plant a trojan on your machine. Either way, they are after your password so they can hijack your account. Probably a Romanian wanting to list a couple hundred laptops.

It was a romanian who hijacked my account. we actually got him to write to a friend of mine. this turkey was selling mobile phones. we eventually got his name and address. he lives in london. his isp is registered to a romanian isp. to a mobile phone.

do i give this info to ebay or scotland yard.?

By all means, give it to Ebay. They are familiar with the background of the case and they will know the appropriate authorities to pass it on to. It won't be as likely to get put on the back burner at Scotland Yard or the FBI if Ebay sends it to them. Big money talks!!
