I just don't get it.
I've been going over past PayPal dispute claims. In nearly every one, even cases where the customer clearly got the wrong item due to my error, s/he includes at least one material misstatement (aka "outright lie" ) in making their case to PayPal.
The latest is a guy who thinks he was shorted on an order. He claims he emailed me 3 times with no response, yet in his claim he cites part of an email response I sent him! Geez, got credibility?
But it's not just him, it's so many of them. It's like they don't even think about trying to do business in a fair and aboveboard fashion. Gosh, I guess if something went wrong, then OBVIOUSLY the seller was trying to cheat you, Bub.
You folks who've had retail experience: Did you see this? Did you get customers lying when there was no need to? Is this now the American way of life?

Yes, unfortunately I did. It seems too many people are so insecure that the truth isn't enough, they have to embellish it to make it to make their point.
OF course, there are also people who are blatant liars simply because they think other people are stupid enough to believe them. And unfortunately they are right. There are MANY stupid people out there!

Or fluffy, they've learned from experience that if you hem and haw up right left and backwards ya get the thing free.
I worked at JC Pennys during Christmas retail season pt and I saw people do that with returns and current sales items. Even if ya tell them no, that is not what was on sale when you bought it or what the ad said, they will hem and buck so much eventually a manager will just give in to them because its so much easier than standing there dealing with them.
Ebayers are not necessarily retailers though. There's not awhole lot of that you can absorb with out it hurting your bottom line, though.

I think that folks today don't know HOW to lie effectively. Perhaps it's because of the "Information Age". They think the more they say, the better their case will be. Inevitably, they get caught up in it.
I doubt schools will be offering "The Art of Lying" any time soon.

If they are a Welfare Pup you can be sure they could lie their way out of Hell. Its amazing what people will do to cheat somebody out of something.

Some people are basically thieves and scam artists at heart. It's a way of life for them. I encountered this often when I was in the moving business. It's not at all uncommon to find a person who will file a false damage claim and perjure themselves to collect a few bucks. And yes Fluffy, the embellishment that comes along with a straight forward claim is sometimes deep enough to float a battleship. What is particularly distressing is the extent people went to in order to defraud the Red Cross with phony relief claims from hurricane Katrina. A friend of ours was employeed as a processor for Red Cross and told us stories that would make you sick. People calling in for emergency relief money orders who lived im Montana and had never been in a Gulf state in their life, claiming they were flooded out in New Orleans and lost everything. People like this make it difficult sometimes to spot a person who has a legitimate problem.

In 5 1/2 years using paypal I've had 10 ATTEMPS at paypal claims...
3 of them were mistaken identity. They meant to file against someone else but clicked in my transaction by mistake.
GEE THANKS B--CHES! I now got 3 permanent little black marks against my account because you're a moron....
2 were Canadian....sellers at that! Since they KNOW we can't get delivery confirmation they thought they could pull a fast one on me. I immediately filed NPB. They always responded with "I paid why the NPB"? I told them that if you think you are going to get away with a chageback then these items were in fact NEVER PAID FOR and the NPB claim will move on as scheduled.... They of course backtracked and cancelled the claim.
1 kid used mommy's paypal account. Mommy filed claim of unautorized use. I told mommy that as long as my products are in their possession then your kid can explain it to the COPS as I will be filing theft, credit card fraud and mail fraud charges. Mommy backtracked quickly.
1 package was missing in action. Buyer was mean, nasty and impatient. He filed on day 10 after payment. He was so ugly and horrible I I let him have his claim. Filed NPB that payment was canceled. Got a neg and gave one back for being so damned nasty about it. Friggin $6 item.......
1 LIAR package delivered they claimed they never got it and claimed 3 EMAILS NO RESPONSE in the same paragraph of their statement they mention that I told them that ( I forgot the wording... it was a long time ago) What a moron.. claims no response and reports to paypal what I told them in response to their email.
2 I filed....... Sellers refused to Acknowledge I paid even though I'd send them all info from the payment and the transaction number. They were probably trying to stall for time or scam me. Upon the claim notice from paypal they of course found my payment and tried to make me cancel the claim.... I told them You have 10 days to get my package to me. I won't be cancelling anything until then. I got both of my packages and cancel the claims upon reciept. These weren't mega volume merchants just some sellers with only a dozen or so items up so them not being able to find my payment is BS.
