I was glad to hear Google Base is up and running, and I'm planning on listing things myself there soon. But I'm wondering just how many buyers there are so far, lest it become another Yahoo or Overstock. Anyone made any sales yet? If so, how'd everything go for you so far?

I understand that Google Base is not yet incorporated into Google's regular search, but let's assume for a moment that it already is.

Even without Google Base, I got well over a million results looking for Neglus's children sledding at Christmas postcard. And I am an experienced researcher who started out decades ago using Boolean operators on Dialog databases, so it's not like I don't know how to search.

I don't see how Google Base can possibly be useful for selling items. Sorry.

OP - no sales here- there really isn't a way to BUY there except through emails. I hope this isn't the finished product.

A MILLION?? LOL that's comforting! When I search "postcard" in Google base mine come up near the top - is that because it's ME searching or because I was the first person to list there? Does anyone else see me there (after the severed head (ew)?

I just looked at Froogle today and notice that it is also "Beta" ...is this a new Froogle? They have something called Froogle Merchant - what's that?

Mary Ann, I was using regular Google search when I got over a million hits. If Google Base isn't folded into the regular search, it's kind of like eBay Stores, isn't it? Few will ever search there. And if it is folded in, the results set will be so large as to be meaningless.

Sorry, people, I'm just not sanguine about all this. Google has had years to get Gmail right, for example, and it's still (from what I understand) very underutilized, with tons of complaints about slowness and unusability. Let's face it: Gmail is a failure. You might want to temper your expectations for Google Base.

When I google for pocket ulu. My ebay store comes up second in the search. My google base item does not come up on the first 3 pages.

Neglus, on my search for postcard, yours comes up third, but you have six of the ten on the first page.

I see that the severed head hasn't sold yet. Who would search for THAT?

I found this on the Google Base help page:

"Where will my item appear?

The type of information in your item will determine which Google property will display it.

For example, any items you're selling will appear on Froogle. Your master's thesis or short story will appear on Google. And your glowing review of the new restaurant down the block would appear on Google Local.

Please note that these are guidelines only. We're unable to make predictions or guarantees about where your content will appear."

So, if your items are already on Froogle, doing this Base is pointless?
